W206 Steering wheel not working/ assisted features not working
I was doing an exhaust upgrade on my W206. I detached the steering column to remove the downpipe, and as well as the catback. Before removing the steering column lock, I marked the column from the steering rack with a line and another line in the column coming from the steering wheel to make sure it aligns, when put back together. When I finished with the exhaust and put everything back together, I turned the car with no issues what do ever. Began driving the car, and all the assistive features stopping working and the steering wheels buttons stopped working, including the horn.
The car drives completely fine, no issues with steering or alignment.
Tried fixes
- Recalibrating steering wheel sensor by turning steering wheel
- disconnected battery again (battery was disconnected when steering column was detached)
- plugged in a scan tool, steering wheel sensor had no communication but OBD scanning tool needed an update specifically for Merc which wasn’t downloaded. mechanic advised to come back after diagnostic tool updated to recalibrate steering wheel sensor.
