Adding a subwoofer to the Burmester system on the W206?

Has anyone installed or looked into installing a subwoofer in the w206 with the Burmester system? My car has the 3D Burmester option, and I am honestly very satisfied with how to the system sounds. However, the Frontbass setup with the woofers in the footwells is a little disappointing. The bass is not necessarily bad, but I feel like maybe installing a subwoofer box in the trunk would help out with the lower frequencies and having a fuller sound, and in my opinion, making the system near perfect. I am not sure what size driver or type of enclosure for the box would be ideal, and if I could use the factory Burmester amplifier or need a separate unit to power it. Hopefully if anyone has done something similar on their w206 they would like to share their experience.

I have the stock system and added a 12 inch sub in a ported box. The bass is way way stronger and I can definitely feel it. If you’re disappointed by the front-bass then you definitely want a subwoofer since it could hit below 40hz which is around where the front-bass rolls off. My system definitely sounds way fuller but I’m also getting all the speakers replaced soon.

Hi

Where did you get the said subwoofer? Is it an after market sub that is plug and play subs? Feeling the need for more punch from the current stock set up of the system. Thank you.

It’s an aftermarket sub from JL audio. There are plug and play options but only for the front bass. If you do decided to get either one though you’ll want an amplifier since the head unit doesn’t provide nearly enough power.

Thank you very much. I'll try to look for a sound amplifier.

A good shop in your area will help you out with that.

ive been working on adding a amplifier to the OEM system and have all the details you may need , you can get a harness to allow hilevel input to the sub amp and then you can add any sub , or what have done so far is replace the OEM subs for a better one and that has completely transformed the system so far but will be adding a amplifier to booost the whole system in the next week too

The helix I5 8” speakers are really nice. I’m running 6.5s but the 8s would be better overall. For a full system though I would also recommend adding a subwoofer in the trunk to fill that frequency gap from 50 to 20hz

How did you tap into the factory system? I need a hi level input from the head unit and I don't know where to get it from. Behind the dash? Or maybe one of the speakers or factory sub?

Are you doing a full build or just subwoofer? Does your car have base audio, advanced audio or Burmester?

My car has the base radio, the 4 door speakers and one factory sub which has dismal performance. So I'm trying to install a JL 1500 amplifier and a couple kicker subs. The factory subwoofer is behind this panel with a lot of red power lines. I wanted to get the input from there but it's not easy to access. So right now I'm kind of stuck not knowing where I'm going to get the signal for the amp from. I could go through one of the door speakers but that isn't ideal because the radio rolls off the bass at higher volume.

That's the Power Distribution unit. You can unscrew the cover, and unmount the PDU, then move it to the side a little without disconnecting any terminals to give you wiggle room to remove the woofer and get the signal. Most of us who have done audio builds just used the Match Plug and Play Loom with a Match UP 8/10 btw.
