Yea. Every car maker talks a lot about OTA and does very little for this. Dealers hesitate to update SW routinely also. You have to ask about it specifically or have some issue to address.
That seems odd. Even my older COMAND system is on 2023 maps, not just copyright. I skipped the last OTA update and installed the update manually, so that's why it shows as not installed, but the maps say 2023 in the car.
As far as I know the Databases of Satellite images and the terrain elevation are not released every year (just like Google maps satellites are not taken every year) so the data is a few years old by the time they resurvay all the global data. Database for roads or "maps" are a different story. Data is collected by mapping services (apple maps, Google maps, waze) and can be released more often to correct errors and new roads.

I have communication module update only in the list as of January this year. No any OTAs since.

Interesting. I went through list of all maps and additional metadata and they all dated 2021 except for Illinois and Wisconsin. For Illinois and Wisconsin maps dated 2023. I live in Illinois and close to border with Wisconsin. I think that may be online update is based on location and updates maps that you use or likely to use only.

Yes, the OTA updates only update your home region, so that looks all correct if you live in Illinois. You can update the other regions manually by downloading the update from the web portal.
