Returning to Mercedes after a quarter-century

Yikes -- just looking at my headline makes me feel ancient, but I guess I am. My only previous Mercedes was an '87 300E -- supremely capable for its day, but uninspiring. I bought several BMWs subsequent to that -- mostly 3ers, some "M"s. I have nothing against BMWs, obviously (in fact, I'll keep my current one, a 2007 335i hardtop convertible), but by June (I have been told), I'll be back behind a 3-pointed star.

If the forthcoming M5 had been available with a 6-speed, I probably would have ordered one. But since they will be offered only with an automatic, I decided to widen my search.

I hope I'm not posting on the wrong sub-forum, but I didn't see one for the W218. I'll look forward to reading notes from others who are awaiting delivery. I'd particularly be interested in any glitches with respect to ordering and options. A minor one for me: I wanted grey leather and carbon fiber trim. Nope, says Montvale; carbon trim is available with black leather only. No big deal, but I think I detect a little Teutonic control-freakness. You VILL order ze car this way, and you VILL like it.

Who has a 2012 CLS63 on order? What have you been told about a delivery date?

Right now there are CLS63s scheduled for production, my first 6 are set for April production which means late may port arrival with deliveries within a week from there. It just depends on when your car will be produced and this first wave of cars is generally ordered by MB with customer orders following in the next production cycle. I would say you should have your new car in June or July.
