Angry 2012 CLS Auto Folding Mirrors

I never would have thought to look into this before getting $112,000 car, but I am dismayed this does NOT have automatic folding mirrors (not standard, not optional). Even more shocking, look in the manual and it talks about automatic folding mirrors, then refers you to another section to learn how to program it to work when locking the car. Go to that section and it says it's ONLY on Canadian cars....I mean, WTF! Why on earth would they deliver cars to Canada that have auto folding mirrors (a basic thing on most high end cars), and not provide that in the U.S. market. Completely nonsensical. BTW, Canada also gets separate climate controls in the rear seats (3 zone), and actually has the USB Cable that is NOT offered in the US Market, even though the manual says it comes with the car. Wonder what other surprises I'm in for. Car drives great and goes like hell, but come on...seriously, not auto folding mirrors? These are very good to have especially if you drive/park a lot in the "big city". Want to look like a fool? Park you car, then get out and manually fold in the mirror on your $112,000 2012 model year car.

I agree, power folding mirrors should be standard, or at least an option. The same issue existed for the prior CLS model. I ordered the parts and had the dealer install power folding mirrors on my 2006 CLS 55. I may have this "mod" done again.

Yeah, it's terrible, have the button, it's in the manual - no option.

There must be a reason they didn't bring them to the US...

MB likes to leave out the US on alot of things. For example, digital rear climate control is available on the C, E, GLK, CLS outside of the states.

a car that gets very poor gas mileage.
I wouldn't say that....

For the US market we get a nice BIG orange side marker on the front-corner of our 2012 CLS63s!!

Thank you, US regulations.

Do you think power folding mirrors and a third climate control zone are worth $10,000? Because that is the premium we pay in Canada on a similarly-equipped car.

No but I strongly believe that if someone wanted to pay for it they should at least have the OPTION.

Was it very expensive to do that? Because I was thinking of doing the same thing.

i thought it might have something to do with the way the mirrors are mounted - on the panels of the for instead of on the pillars. then again... its just a guess

That's a $50 fix that you can put on your self. Go to ebay....or have them color matched by a local painter.

Seriously, wow I thought they would've kept that feature? I don't mean to thread jack, but can you please post a picture of the rear in the new CLS (since you like posting pics?) :P

I'm with ya...and the good old K.I.S.S. saying: keep it simple, s*****. Speaking of amber side marker...I think the regulation is that way because amber/yellow color is easier seen in fog than white color.

Same here! That's why I'm usually out in the middle of the parking lot away from all other cars..And it irritates me to no end when SOME people just HAD to park next to me when there are tons of open spaces around. Some people just can't figure out the reason why you are parking so far away from everyone else.

Huh, that's odd. Well, at least you have both features. The US C219 had 4 zone climate control (like the pic. I found online in my post). Just odd they would remove features like that, considering the 63 is $100k+

Speaking of exterior mirrors, are the carbon fiber mirrors which are apparently available elsewhere being sold by anyone in the U.S.? My carbon fiber rear spoiler is lonely.
