ECO mode

anyone use this mode? Still wierds me out when the car shuts off when i stop. Even had a time when it didn't start back up but that was prob a fluke. Is there really a difference in mpg using this as opposed to turning it off?

Sometimes. But in stop and go traffic it can get annoying. I think you might save some MPG if your sitting in really bad traffic and its not moving. Just turn it off and put in Sport + and enjoy!

so can anyone tell me how the modes work?

if youre in sport plus and you start shifting with the paddels, does that put you in manual?

in manual, whats the response (throttle and shifts) compared to sport plus?

the same as sport plus?

this is coming from an E60 m5 user with the smg where everyone shifts themselves. just because of the nature of the setup, the most aggressive program is not available in auto(drive )mode.

I'm a fan of Eco when I cruise on the highway - cylinder deactivation for when you're stuck behind 8,975 people doing the speed limit.

Never used it, never will. The first two things I do after I start my car is turn ESC off and press the AMG button (which eliminates eco mode).

If I wanted a gas sensitive car, I would have bought a Prius. I drive the crap out of the car every day Im behind the wheel. The ECO mode is contradictive to my intent.

I thought ECO mode was just start/stop, didn't realize there was cylinder deactivation?

Yep - check it out.

So, that ^ link refers to our engine without the turbos, and I can't find any official MB literature backing me up about our cars. I have read that our cars use cylinder deactivation in reviews, but I don't like citing C&D / R&T / etc. because sometimes they're way off.
