Why do we bother with the Performance Package?
Wouldn't we get a better bang for our buck with aftermarket mods?

PP is a must for me- money is relative so for others saving 6k (retail is 7300 but I get discounts) might make sense but for me I want the best car with the items I want.
I love the alcantara steering wheel with the PP- different shape, format, and feel
Carbon Fiber engine cover is a nice touch but not a big deal
Red painted calipers- I like alot- its a cheap mod if not done but its nice to have it from the factory
Warrany free worries 550 hp and 590tq- great peace of mind add
But for me the best part is the upgraded stiffer AMG suspension. I hate a soft mushy car with too much yaw and lean. AMG's are notorious for mushy suspensions when involving airmatic and/or ABC. I have had 6 AMG's and the current spring set up in the front is their best yet but the cars are still too soft. The PP dampeners are excellent for MY driving taste and style. Yes its not as comfortable but thats not its intent. The PP suspension keeps the car planted at mid 100 mph speeds and holds the body roll so well in high speed and sharp turns. To me it brings the car feel closer to that of an M car. The chassis response and feedback is better. You do need decent roads though but one can always adjust the dampeners with the softness button inside.
Oh by the way the dampeners cost retail (pp) 1095 each in the front and 850 each in the rear or a total of $3890. Im not sure what the stock AMG dampeners cost but they are less.
I could buy a non PP car, get no wheel, get no red calipers, get no suspension and hp/tq but would end up modding the power with a tune, painting the calipers and even upgrading the dampeners. Add up the costs (parts labor etc) and time (my time is worth alot ) and the price is differential is negligible.
YMMV.

Anyone know what the projected/expected reliability is for the newer E and up suspensions? For guys who plan to own their 2012-13 vehicles longer than a couple years - is the collective "educated guess" that they'll be ticking time bombs, or has MB/AMG greatly improved the designs and engineering since w211?
