I think it's absolutely ridiculous how Vic keeps switching cars up...what's next, multiple sets of wheels for the same car? Makes no sense. Vic, do like the rest of us and just get a nice car to take you from A to B, keep it stock, and drive it until the wheels fall off. Sheeeesh.

To the OP, congrats on your new acquisitions.

To VDUBPOWER, will your wheels fit my car?

Whats ironic is I indeed did the multi wheel setup on my E55:

Stock
19 inch AMG Monoblok
Brabus III style
BBS LM
19 inch AMG CL Monoblok

all at the same time and I realized that switching cars was far more rewarding than wheels. So I stopped.

Teaser- just showed up

I figured but wasnt sure... the car isnt out yet. Expect late late this year and/or earlier 2014. Pricing for the first runs will be at sticker for sure. Ill wait a short period of time like I did with my 997.1 and 997.2 Turbos and then swwwwwwwwwoooooooop in.

I actually really enjoy this high reving AWD car. It moves for a 400 hp car and thats due to the great pdk tranny, ligher weight, and gearing. The sound is awesome too with the Porsche Sport Exhaust (pops and burbles stock). The 991 chassis is an enormous leap forward over the 997 variant. The balance is excellent with the more mid engine set up, interior is top notch, and the whole entire body just looks better.

2007 Porsche Turbo lasted 3 1/2 years
2011 Porsche Turbo lasted 1 1/2 years

But:

2012 E63 Wagon lasted 4 1/2 months LOL
2002 Audi S4 lasted 6 months
2012 CLS 63 TT lasted 11 months
2005 CL65 lasted 12 months
2013 M5 lasted 6 months

And the rest sit somewhere in between. Ill tell you right now that the R8 V10 is going to be with me for quite some time; its just incredible with the exhaust, ecu, and tcu mods. The Black Series might have finished its run at 1 year.

Sorry Jim, back to you- Vic the thread jack is out

Nice pickup. The 991 is pretty impressive. They did a good job with it all around. The new chassis is very well balanced.

I have to say I was a little disappointed with the 991 turbo reveal. It seemed a little unimpressive, especially compared to the rumors about it running around like tri-turbo, etc. Seems a very small step forward and I think a lot of people were expecting more given some of the more "drastic" changes to the GT3. Maybe the 991.2 will bring something else to the table.

Vic, I'm considering between a c63 BS or a 991 CS for my next car and wanted to see if you have any suggestions between the two as you have both vehicles? I love the DCT in my m3 and not entirely sure how the gear box in the BS compared. Any thoughts are appreciated.

Well I got one car broke in anyway, the SL. That's something. Now to work on the M5. The SL will be mostly a garage queen until then. I hate breaking in cars...

Is it a Lease or buy?

I'm an advocate for long term ownership/caring for a car (though I never do it myself), but I went WOT on my baby right off of the dealership lot, lol.

Generally I'm gentler on them for the first few hundred miles then open it up. However I've been a little more cautious this time I just had a car lemmoned for engine problems.

With the M5 some dealers may look the other way at break in stuff, but I get the feeling the Dallas BMW dealer may be little eichmmans when it comes to that considering how many times they made sure to point out not to violate the break in rules.

Ah, yes that makes sense. It slipped my mind what cars you're dealing with. AMG or M models will probably be judged far more closely if any issues arose to where they could pin something on you. That's where us folk with the mass market drivetrains can slip by sometimes I guess.

It's smart of you. I like treating a car good even if it is a "Rental" (Lease). And who knows, maybe you'll love it enough and strike a decent enough deal to want to keep it after the Lease.

I realized later on that the "S" mode in BMW's takes away the overdrive gear (8th on my car but I think 7th on the M5 if it's a 7-Speed instead of 8 as I'm recalling). Kinda sucks because I drove home for like 100 miles on the highway in "S" the whole time, meaning the RPM's must have been far too high for too long a distance for a car with just 8 miles on it (I know of guys with BMW's who don't put it in S at all until like 2-3K miles, lol). Not to mention on a cold motor initially. Surprising that I didn't hear the redlines at a non Overdrive gear for such a distance but as I'm sure you know, the F10 cabin is almost logic-defyingly quiet.

Oh well. I try and stick to the theory that these automakers make these drivetrains durable enough to be able to withstand cold redlines, aggressive break ins, just that they advocate against them in case things go wrong. "Ignorance is bliss.... until something hopefully-hypothetically goes wrong".

Thread Jack III:

2 different cars that actually serve the same purpose; driveability. The BS is the tq beast with a low down exhaust note and heavy hp to get it done. Its chassis is excellent but the suspension really creates the monster in turns and high speed bends. The NA engine gets the car moving asap. I cant say a bad thing about this car. The down shift barks are spectacular here; violent and loud. The power can really let you get the rear loose if you want; its fun!!! The car is a beast. A hammer.

The 991 C4S gets the job done via lighter weight and a better tranny all day. I swear the 400 hp is almost as much as the 510 hp on the BS when we talk about effective whp. The car just moves, but you need to be in the higher rpm range. Its not a tq beast at all- its a drivers car that really asks you to drive the car. No mash and go here gents- but when you rock it you know you have earned it. The 991 chassis is amazing, the engine is considered more of a mid engine mount now vs the 996 and 997's I have had and you can feel in it the straights and turns. The car is entirely neutral and you have zero fear of tossing it around. The days of a having a light front end at triple digit speeds has exited with this chassis. The exhaust is more of an exotic note with Porsche Sport Exhaust system screaming from 5k to 8k and when you downshift the burbles are awesome. This car is a stealthy killer. A scalpel.

Both are great cars that would serve any of us well. The interior of the Pcar is ahead of the BS with more creature comforts and amenities. Im amazed that a 400 hp car moves this fast. The tq of the BS may create a faster feel down low but the pdk and higher reving 991 makes that car feel faster up top. I got a C4S so the AWD system does pull back some of the power up top but thats fine; I wanted that wide body!!!!

OK now I want a 991 CS.

The epitome of Porsche black-magic less-is-more engineering supremacy.
