Adaptive transmission reset

I'm confident that many members know this already, but I recently did a reset of the adaptive transmission. Wow what a difference it makes. I am positive that my granny style driving during the break-in did not help.

Anyway after the reset, I am enjoying the car much more. I had a dodge viper before so was used to > 500hp/tq+, but could not understand why the car would not kick down the gear box and stayed in 4th during open throttle. Now on the freeway, it will kick down to 3rd and accelerate much harder.

I did the research when someone mentioned their improved acceleration after their cls63 was sent in to its first service and the mechanic disconnected the main battery, which caused the adaptive transmission reset. I learned that the older way of flooring the gas pedal for 5 seconds with the key in the on position then turning the key to off and removing my foot of the gas, and waiting 2 minutes works to reset it.

All in all, I was very close to selling the car because I thought something was very wrong, but now I see what everyone is talking about. Car is amazing.

I think you may have posted on the wrong forum.
Is this reset on a W218 or W219?

You are right bro--- the W218 can not do the adaptive tranny update,

You can do a hard ecu update but that involves disconnecting the battery.

Okay then I must be confused, sorry. I do have a W218 and felt a difference through the older way of resetting, but read a W218 member mention the reset through the battery. Now I have to try the battery disconnect just to be sure.

The battery will do it but its just too much work and you lose your memory and other things.

On the older models it was a key in the ingintion process that did the reset.

Hi Vic
What other things would you lose when disconnecting the battery (besides losing radio channel memory)?
Just curious because I just disconnected the battery on my MY12 ML63 to remove the ECU.
Thanks
Vince

It depends on the car I would guess... Ive never done it intentionally and cant remember the last time I had a battery issue on one of my Benzes.

I did not disconnect the battery when I pulled my ECU on my C63 to send for tuning.
Is it a necessary step?

No not at all--- my tuner on my M157's just made sure the car was completely off and waited a few minutes for the ECU to clear.

I just pulled my ECU out. Pulled the start stop button out, turn key on 1min. then off. Removed key.
Let set for 2 min. Remove ECU.
Replacement, connect ECU, place key in on position, let set for 2 min.
Start.
