Blackout Trim Questions
MB World,
I'm thinking of blacking out all the chrome trim on my Obsidian Blk w218 (grill, window trim, trunk, door handles) and had a few questions:
- I've seen people paint and people wrap, what are the pros and cons of each?
- For color should it be a flat black or a matched obsidian metallic?
- Best place to get it done - dealer or independent?
- What is the expected cost?

This has been discussed many times.
in a few words, paint is better than wrap or plasti dip but difference in cost is what drives people to go the cheaper route plus the fact that it is reversible.
Flat vs match is a personal taste.
You don't need to get raped at the dealer. Find a good independent shop.
Cost is dependent on what you are trying to. It can be as cheap as a few hundreds bucks to plasti dip everything.

I can say the wrap I left behind on my black E has held up really well, it's been on since last October, and there is only one tiny little spot that is frayed, but it does not bother me.....it's 3M and was done by a graphics and sign company, the kind that do commercial vehicles, the whole car was 2K, pretty 'inexpensive' for a wrap, but it was the only line I had on one and the only one I could find that was willing, in my area...
with that in mind, I have read of some folks on the forums doing it themselves and saying it wasn't too difficult........
I also don't think a plain black would look bad on your color paint either

Karl901 - That's exactly the look I want, but I'm using a graphite wheel, not bronze... I'm ordering the lowering module from Renntech tomorrow, so I'll ask those guys how they handled their trim... thanks!
