2014 CLS63-S Model
Project Runway
After a long six-month wait, my new 2014 CLS63 Model S is finally in my garage, or should I say hangar? What a beast! I am still within the 1000 mile break-in period (4500 max RPM and no full-throttle operation) but I can tell this thing is a torque-monster! It is a pleasure to drive.
MBWorld (and the members on this forum in particular) have been very helpful to me thus far, so as I start to change the appearance of my car and/or make modifications, I thought I would post-as-I-go... I have a long wish-list, so hopefully some of it will be useful to other members.
Step 1 is this coming Monday! I am having all of the windows (including sunroof and windshield) tinted with Prestige Films - Spectra PhotoSync window tint. (http://www.prestige-films.com/auto_photosync.shtml). It is being installed by SpeedShield USA in Addison, TX. (http://www.speedshieldusa.com/) I might use these guys to wrap the car and smoke some of the lights as well, but none of that is decided just yet. That's forstep 3 or 4!
Attached are some "before" pictures... As you will see, my office is at the airport, so I get some pretty cool photo opportunities! ...Hence, the name of the thread "Project Runway". Indeed this car is a stellar platform for a project, so I am looking forward to every step. Enjoy.
PS-- I am struggling with the best way to upload photos, so feel free to PM me if you have any suggestions. Thanks.

Congrats on the new beast. It looks great.
Your second mod should be to change the orange sidemarkers. The S class W221 on ebay for $50 are the ones to get.
I have embarked on my next steps (tune, wheels, lowering and murdering out). It all has been ordered but I came up on a hick up when I went to the track to benchmark the stock performance and realized I could not do a burnout or more importantly power braking the car.
The car bogs down past 2K rpm. Yes I have tried it with ESP off and dyno mode on.
The car was at the dealer and they confirmed I have the latest software on all modules and I am being told that this is normal to protect the wetclutch.
I am having a tough time agreeing to this as others with M157 platforms are able to do burnouts without any issues so all my mods are on hold.
I would be interested to get your feedback once you are past your break-in period.
One tuner told me he was able to do 4 wheel burnout on an E63S .

Gorgeous! I clicked on your second picture and when I wanted to see the next one, it brought me to the photo album of somebody else showing naked girls posing in a car. I got distracted for a minute.

Bizarre. Is your car tuned already? It doesn't seem so by what you're saying. It's as if the ESP was overly interfering...even when you turn it off? My car never had this issue before the tune. After the tune, it's actually too easy to burnout. So you're right unfortunately, it's not normal.

Thanks for the reply. Sorry for hijacking your thread OP. My car is stock and I agree it seems the torque settings or hidden stability settings are overly interfering. ESP is completely off and even in dyno mode, it won't burnout. Very frustrating. Waiting on feedback from Germany.

We are working on some new ideas for these cars this month and I will keep in mind what problems you are having and work on a solution. Hopefully we can come up with something.

So I just got the car back... Got the PhotoSync window tint film on all windows. At the last minute I decided not to do the clear film on the front windshield. I can tell you that the heat rejection on this film is incredible. When the sun is coming through the side window, I can't really even feel the radiation or warmth. Not sure how this stuff works, but it works!
Also, I went ahead and had the roof wrapped in 2mil black vinyl and then top coated with 8mil InvisaBra for the gloss look. Love it. Check out the album here... https://mbworld.org/forums/members/r...rap-10497.html
Step 3 = HRE's!!!

Well, I was seriously considering the P101 or P104... leaning toward P101. But then I learned that the "SC" in the P43SC and P44SC stands for super-concave... and that's the look I really want, especially on the rears. If they made a P101SC, I'd be all-in. If not, I'll probably go with the 43's or 44's

no kidding!? hoping my next set will be the 43's as well, for an S class, unless I find something better.......
either one would be sweet, make sure to specify to have the most concavity you can when you make your order as they can be mellow or a bit deeper

Actually that is just a reflection... but it's funny you mentioned it because I had my shop order in some special 38% film to do the surround portion of the headlights and the entire taillights next week! Need to get rid of those darn orange sidemarkers too!

haha, I honestly didn't even notice the side markers that much
but yeah, it's a good thing to do......was the first thing I did to mine....
same as the W221 side markers I think.....
the 14 S class has them built into the whole thing
and will def need a tint on that part
