So OBD Monitors Vehicle Speed -- Records Also?
I installed a Valentine1 radar detector "SAVVY" unit in my CLS63. This unit connects to the OBD (diagnostic) receptacle under the driver-side dash. It provides a convenient power supply and automatically mutes the radar alert beep when the vehicle speed is below that selected by the driver via a thumbwheel on the unit.
Obviously, the OBD has an electrical pin that provides vehicle speed. As suggested in some press reports, I'm assuming that vehicle speed is recorded for some period of time -- say the past hour or so -- for the purpose of accident investigation, warranty claims, liability claims, and the like. Another Big Brother example?
