2012 CLS63 or 2013 M5?

Hi Everyone,

My brother is planning to buy a car soon and has two options in mind, CLS63 and M5. I know this is a Mercedes forum and i love Mercedes myself, but can you advise which you would go for if it was you? It's going to be a dd with not much track usage since we don't have one close by. Personally i think the M5 will be the more fun car to drive with it's DCT, but you can't ignore that monster AMG engine and it's roar.

Awaiting your feedback!

Engine and looks is about all the CLS63 is good for. M5 is better in every other category and much more comfortable as a daily driver.

I owned a 2012 CLS63 and traded it for a 2013 M5. I felt the M5 was a better car after driving it. It's more comfortable and has more character. Get the full leather interior. Really sets it off.

It's also a carry over from the W211 platform, which is very disappointing and a cost cutting measure from Mercedes in my opinion.

It is such a general statement that you cant really answer that question.
Your brother needs to test drive both and it should become apparent which one he prefers.
As you stated the transmission is superior on the M but the engine especially if tuned is better on AMG.
My personal opinion is that the M5 has gone too soft and away from their moto as the ultimate driving machine. Many reviews agree with that statement.
The M6GC has gotten better reviews and the competition package on the M5 has closed the gap but I can't get passed the fact that the exhaust feedback is fake (I know it can be turned off).
Furthermore the M-5 from the outside just looks too plain. Again, I would chose the M6GC over the M5.
Finally the ability to get a matte paint sealed the deal on the CLS.

I agree, totally a personal choice, from my perspective the CLS63PP is AMAZING !! I love the car inside and out with the exception of the COMMAND system, which is almost useless IMO, but a very small part of the overall package, which is phenomenal

The M5 looks does nothing for me, very plain jane that seems to blend in with many other cars on the road
