Talking Resonator Delete w X-pipe- ** CLIP JUST ADDED**

So after reading way too many posts on resonator deletes talk about confusing!

Should you go with H pipe, X pipes, straight pipes, cats vs no cats, performance vs sound, no muffler, muffler with no cats. Muffler, no resonator, 1/2 cat, 2 curling irons, and one soda can... whew- this crap is all over the place!

I've got a '12 CLS63 AMG PP and was going to drop the resonator and add a Magnaflow Crossover Pipe.

From EVERYTHING I read: X pipe will produce "technically more upper band power and more of a Euro sound. I still haven't figured out if it would be louder than the stock AMG setup or not?

The straight pipe is louder but has more flutter and air push in the backend.

H Pipe has more low end sound and pull and is equalized much like the X pipe.

I'm wondering what the aftermarket tuners that do custom exhausts think? There's just too much opinion and the information is crazy-

Bottom line- if I dropped the Res and added the X pipe, my intent would be for a better and hopefully more noticeable sound. If I can't accomplish this, I'm not sure it's worth the expense, even being a cheaper mod.

Good feedback all around and great to bounce ideas off each other.

I don't know if this will help but a good read. Some pics also. https://mbworld.org/forums/w212-amg/...20-my-e63.html

always incorporate a crossover to balance the system. If you do straight pipes you will loose low end torque.

X pipe is preferred over the H

The baffles in the factory resonator are perforated to balance the system

Here you go- got the delete done today and added a pre-made Magnaflow crossover (x-pipe) whole thing cost $260 and was worth every penny.

You can judge for yourself!

Or anyone can chime in... 2.5", 3" diameter? Any options other than Magnaflow?

They had to cut out the resonator, (obviously) but the cut had to be so close to it, it would be difficult to put back on if you wanted too. They welded on both sides.

I heard there was a pre-made Mag X pipe that could slide into the two pipes and clamped from the engine side therefore only needing to be welded on the rear side, but I couldn't locate it. No additional parts needed.

Either way, I'm happy with the results and since I wasn't the one with the torch, good to go regardless!

Why didn't you go for 3 inch X pipe? Is it too large in diameter?

The guy's said grab the 2.5's so I didn't even ask. It would seem like the 3's would work just fine. The difference probably just depends on how they want to connect them. I can't imagine there would be much difference but can't be sure as I'm no expert!

For the 6.2 Naturally aspirated motor a 2.5 or 2.75" size x-pipe is better for torque and will help increase velocity.. however on the V8 Bi-Turbo, an X-pipe or H-Pipe is useless.. Turbos dont need backpressure or the increased velocity that scavenging the pulses do..

Turbo motors diminish engine pulses and therefore just need the fastest exhaust exit available to be most efficient. The X-pipe wouldnt be matching any pulses or creating any added velocity, which is why going Straight Pipe where the resonator is, would be the best power yielding. The only thing an X-pipe will do on our Bi-Turbos is quiet the sound.. The factory resonator is already basically a straight pipe with a little h-tube between.. Its pretty much pointless to remove or change this, but if you do.. go as big as possible 3" but dont waste ur time or money on an H or X pipe.
