It is a neat concept however, now you've raised the overall height of the airboxes and when you look at them compared to the ECU cover in the middle, I think it would look awkward. And I think its a bit of over-engineering.

If what you're after is a less restricted airflow that is a result of how low the factory filters hang in the airbox, and to increases airflow itself by using a quality filter, you can simply run the high flow Green Filters by themselves without the aluminum spacer (they're probably the same ones Weistec uses just a different color) that cost $30-40ea depending on where you get them from. Green Filter PN# 7171 is the one for the M157 engines.

I've had the Green Filters installed for a few months now and by themselves, have completely eliminated the restriction in the airbox created by the factory filters.

The restriction in all the V8 AMG air boxes has been a problem for many years and on my highly moded CL55 Kompressor, even with performance filters, the stock OEM box still would choke HP down by 26hp. So no, the kit is not over engineered and if you study the lower air box in depth, the dirt line on your stock or aftermarket filters, you will see that about 30-40% of the air filter is restricted inside the box, not just on the inlet side. Plus the Biturbo air boxes and filters are smaller than the Kompressor engine filters and the 6.2Litre N/A engine but demand more air flow , being that they make more HP.

These flow restrictions have been shown for years and years on our AMG`s and they become much worse with each mod added. The kit opens this restriction up, retains a OEM "look" and still brings all the cold air in from the front grill. Below shows the inside of an AMG lower air box that a stock oem filter sits in . Inlet is restricted and 40% of air box restricts air flow through the filter. Many people may have never changed the air filter on their cars, so even showing pictures does not help to understand the flow engineering.

You do a dyno test and have a graph of just the Green Filter upgrade in the factory airbox without the aluminum spacer?
