Will definitely take some time to digest the new design.. interior looks gr8 but very much the same as a E class

What I see here is an amalgamation of the original CLS body (W219 from 2006), new E Class interior, S Coupe rear end, and AMG GT front end I wonder if the folks at Mercedes created the new CLS with photoshop ?!

The W219 had more feminine lines and curves, which became more muscular with the W218. They've now reverted back.

I'd say it looks pretty good overall, but was hoping for something a little more innovative from Mercedes, in terms of design after the long lifecycles of the W219 & W218.

Heisenberg that's spot on man! And I agree with the design points being jacked off the other vehicles.

Agree with you Walter.

But the issue is that because it is an amalgam of existing elements, and because the shape is more sedan like than before, it doesn’t look any sportier or more sexy than the E43. Nor is the interior any more luxurious. In fact the loudspeaker design seems less luxurious. It doesn’t have those automated revolving tweeters on the doors.

To me this seems like a model between the C43 and E43 both in terms of size and in terms of horsepower.

After a week of looking on different sites and pictures....yep it is ugly! All it needs is that side crease to make it one of the best looking cars on the market. Without it, looks like a upsized CLA

Right! The problem comes from the design trying to be too many things all at the same time. The main problem is the front, which should be based on sedan front ends like C, E, or S class, rather than crossing over to a sports car front from the GT. A front end that is closer to the S-class would have tied together the rear end much better. MB was lucky to have pulled off the "4-door coupe" concept with the W219 and still good with the W218, but it's now pushing the envelope too much.

For some reason I see Toyota in there from that angle.

they are saying there won’t be any amg version of it, that will instead end up being the amg gt4

without the side creases and rear wheel arches the car doesn’t look as aggressive and sporty. I do miss them

Is it true there will be no “63” model as it will be replaced by a cls53 model?

No 63 ever planned. The 53 replaces the 43, which will be a very competent car. But no high-end CLS anymore. The AMG GT 4 door version fills that niche as stated earlier...

I don't mind the rear honestly. Or the sides and interior... its the front that annoys me.

Yea side crease would be nice, its a bit too soft & BMW looking, but I still like it overall. I'm curious why they added the middle seat to the CLS instead of making it a 2+2 as its always been, now it seems less special and more like a traditional 4 door sedan because of the rear bench seat.

Removing the side creases i think makes it look less spory and aggressive than the outgoing model...just too simple now.

I guess this paves the road for the AMG GT4 to look that much better/more special.

I concur! Was really hoping to see something innovative, just like when the W219 came out. They just reverted to the 219. Interior long over due, except that for the price range the interior should have most or all the features of the S rather than an E.

I agree, im not sure about the new GT4 either, I really dont like panameraish hatchback styling in the rear.

I love how CLS still has a traditional trunk design without joining the roof and trunk together into one line..

shame
