Welcome to my world ;( . I am going through the exact same thing. You probably have to replace your two back air struts. Hopefully your pump didn't burn out too. We can't be of much help to you except to take it to the shop to have it checked out and replaced.

Been to shop now 3x and they replaced bag on right side and rear right leveler so they say...they now replaced leveler with OEM part ...wondering if leaking strut but hopefully they tested for that dont know???
my lowering button t doesnt a thing and not illuminated either ..wondering if its some type of relay ...when hooked up to machine it gives one fault but haven't seen the exact code #. last tow to shop when they went to look at it they said the car was leveled. however i stated the rear still looked to lower ...now going on week 3

Same thing I’m experiencing at the moment on my c218 non 4matic. Alert “pull over car too low” came on the ic it’s resllt annoying because I use a lot of the buttons on the steering wheels to change the music. The rear was sagging so my friend, that works at Benz, told me to order the struts so I did from carid. The brand was Arnott, everyone here swears by them so I went with them. He came over yesterday and we installed them. We turned the car on and the alert would came back on, we heard the compressor turn on for a good 30secs however it did not rise. It’s now even lower than what it was smh. He told me throw on a compressor and a valve block. Those aren’t cheap even if they’re aftermarket. I’m a bit frustrated at myself for listening to him to just throw on parts without a diag. I’m taking it to him tomorrow at the dealer so we can can connect it to the star diagnostics so we can actuate/test the compressor.

Update! I bought both rear struts and a compressor by Arnott that cost me about $1200. Labor was just $447. After installation, My ride height is pretty high now and the issue seems resolved..Except that when I change the suspension setting from the car, nothing happens (It stays high). So the issue could be a bad relay or issue with suspension control module. However, I know that my pump by arnott (about $660) came with a relay. I am not sure if the mechanic saw that and installed it but I will check tomorrow and update.
To answer your questions though: Yes! You should have done a diagnostic first to figure out if the leak is really from air struts or hoses, or O-rings or valve block, then proceed to replace the parts as necessary. But all is not lost. I believe you can still do the diagnostics and if the struts were not the problem, then you can attempt to retrun the arnott parts. Maybe the pump is weak and dying and cannot sustain the air..Or maybe the pump is good, but the air is leaking from valve block or hose. Bottomline, diagnose the issue first and go from there.
