2014 CLS63 S

Why is the 2014 E63 supposedly faster than the CLS variant with the same drive train? E class weighs more, so... What's the dealio?

It is not faster both have the same M157 engine and same tranny...The CLS 63S weighs 4,420 lbs vs. the E63S which weighs 4,431 lbs so its about a
11 lbs difference in favor of the CLS 63 S...actual track times are nearly identical with the (W218) CLS 63S coming in .10 seconds faster vs the E63S...

Both come in at around 3.5 seconds 0-60 mph which makes both vehicles the fastest production vehicles of there type (Coupe and Sedan) for model
year 2014 and up (W218).

There are some automotive publications (Including the factory) that rate the 2016-2018 MB CLS 63S at 3.4 seconds 0-60 and the 1/4 mile at 11.6
seconds flat...The CD of the CLS63S (.33 vs .25) is also slightly better, so that would make more sense as well...Maximum speed (CD limited) at
205 MPH.

Thank you, docrock! I I've seen the spread as far as over 200 lbs. depending on where you look, so I couldn't understand SportsCarStandings.com putting the cls63s @ number 4 and the e63s @ number three. They're claiming 3.2 seconds for both, between 0 and 9 hundredths. Every answer begets another question doesn't it? Why is the European version nearly 200 pounds lighter than the North American version?

The 200 lbs difference is the E63 wagon (which you don't see much here in North America), vs. the E63 Sedan which weight wise is
only slightly heavier than the CLS 63...The European spec versions I'm fairly sure are about the same curb weight as the ones here
in NA as they come out of the same factory...The advantage(s) with the CLS 63 over the E 63 is better aerodynamics (.33 vs .25 CD)
and slightly lower ground clearance/ride height, etc.

Good luck.
