Question When ordering brake pads

Hi guys, planning on ordering some pads and maybe rotors too from FCP Euro. Do I need to also buy the wear sensors? How often do the rotors need to be replaced at the same time as the pads? Can I get by with just pads to save money? Pads are 145 for the front, 84 for the rear. It's my understanding the rotors get replace because they develop grooves/ridges if you wait for the 'wear light'.
Any advice input would help! Thanx!

I would replace the brake sensor whenever I replace the the pads, they are inexpensive and you can save the labors $$$. For the rotors, you will need to feel them see if the grooves/ridges, the edges are deep enough to replace. On my old W211 E63, I did not replace the rotors until I replaced the third set of pads.

One sensor for each corner I'm guessing? My wear light have not come on yet so I'm hoping the rotors are 'okay'. Thanx for the reply Dustin

FCP Euro lists only 1 sensor for the front and 1 for the rear. If you replace the break pads soon enough, it will save the rotors' life.

I did this recently, it's two sensors. You should check your discs for grooves, depending on how many miles are on them it might be a good idea to swap them.

Yes, that is what the shop wants me to do, and did say they were grooved at the last inspection of them. They want 665 for parts; I don't think that includes labor though....that is for the rears. The rears wear slower than the fronts though right?
Thanx Cylinder

Really depends on how much your TC kicks in, the rears can take a beating. I ordered all of my brake parts from FCPEuro, fronts and rears. They have GREAT prices on the rotors, I wouldn't go anywhere else.

Sorry but what is TC? I've done my fair share of burnouts over the years You're right about FCP, they do have good prices BUT....
the shop I use 'will not' let me get 'my own' parts! WTF? They need to buy them and get their markup I guess!? Odin forbid a guy tries to save a little fawking money! Been going there over ten years, 4 different MB cars they've worked on and THIS is the thanx I get. I could go to another shop that's even closer, but I have not had any work done there before........fawk.

$665 for 2 rear rotors? Rear rotor is $180/piece at OEMbenzparts.com. The front rotor is more expensive, around $850/piece. They are Mercedes Genuine parts.
If you want to go with Non-genuine Mercedes, they are a lot cheaper. Most indy shops will accept your own parts. Get the quote from the other shop that is closer to you and see the difference in price, and see if they accept your own parts.

$3,100 labor + Genuine parts? Parts is around $2,400 so labor is around $700, kinda expensive for a brake job. Brake job does not require special tools or a highly skill mechanic, any mechanic can perform this job. You can try to find a mobile mechanic to save $$$

And pads too right?
The shop wasn't even using Brembo's in the front, using zimmerman. Do I need shims too? The shop has shims listed. Thanx Cylinder!

I got a quote of about 550 if I brought my own parts, even that plus the 1184 from FCP saves me over a grand! Yeah, feeling a little weird about the indy shop I've been using......fawk loyalty.

FCP Has pads too, just call them, tell them your model or even give them your VIN. The car comes with the Zimmerman hybrids from the factory but the Brembo's also have an OEM part number, look better and are lighter and cheaper. No reason not to go with them. I went with Carbotech pads which were pricey but great, you'll be just fine with whatever FCP has.

Every auto part you buy from FCP Euro is guaranteed for life, for as long as you own the vehicle.

Hello again guys, does this look right for the parts I need? I'm getting ready to do this and found a shop willing do the work for about 500 bucks with my own parts, just don't want to screw up the order as I've never gone this route before, any input would be great!

This looks right. Did you speak with them or did you just put the parts list together from the comments here? I had called in and they were great.

I don't think you need wear sensors unless you drive your pads until the wear sensors go off. If you replace your pads a bit early no need for wear sesnors. For a car like this, unless running ceramic rotors, I would do pads and rotors at the same time. You might be able to get away with taking the rotors off and having them ground down but having new rotors and pads together makes the braking experience better in my experience.

I did consider trying to smooth the rotors out as they do have ridges, but figured new pads and rotors would be a better choice. I think 64K miles is pretty damn good for the first set of rotors huh?
