Leaking Brake Line Found, Can it be patched? - 2012 CLS550
Found a leak in one of the brake lines inside my front left wheel wheel behind the protective plastic cover (looks like it's one of my rear lines) see attached pic.
I've done various diy repairs on my vehicle but this is new for me. Can I simply cut out a portion of the line and patch in a new one with a 'brake line flaring kit'?
Having a hard time finding details online, I'm wondering if this is a typical 5/16" PVF coated line. If so could I essentially buy the same type of line and the connectors I need from any parts store or do I need something MB specific here?
I'm in Canada.
Thanks
PS - If you're curious about how this may have happened, behind the plastic line there was a clump of mud mixed with gravel literally lodged/compressed right around the area of the leak. My guess, it had been stuck in there for years and either slowly rusted it out, or the gravel bits slowly vibrated through the PVF coating and eventually rupturing the line. Only thing that makes sense because the rest of the lines all appear to be in good shape.
Ya I saw your link posted in a similar thread but honestly the schematics are not that good and I can't ascertain whether that line is my rear right or my rear left, so have no idea which one to order without getting my vehicle up on a proper lift, removing several plastic covers and skirting and following that line all the way back.
But I just watched a video where they are replacing a line by splicing and flaring in pieces:
