Anyone have a Mavis?
There is a new place that just opened in my town( Mavis Tires and Brakes) and my question is would any of you consider a shop that does Tires, brake jobs across the board versus a MB shop? The price is 129.00 per axel, I have my own parts......as opposed to 550.00 for a Benz specific shop.
I'm of course interested in saving money, but not at the expense of my fine German auto getting fawked up.
Any thoughts Gents?
Danke

Could be one of the techs had had enough at the Benz or BMW dealer and wanted a change, and Mavis was there at the right time.

A new shop would be a reason for caution. If you like to chat people up, swing by and ask how business is, and if they have any specials or promotions. During the conversation ask who the franchisee is, his background in cars, and where the shop recruited their techs from.

Thanx for your input

NO! Do not use Mavis. Many years ago they took over a number of existing shops in my area (Albany NY). That was their business model. Buy out existing shops, change the mgmt but keep the mechanics. Most of the shops they took over in my area were failing for a reason. So the Mavis change made them look nice but the work quality was still poor.
I purchased tires from them and they were ok. Except that they ordered the wrong tires several times so I had to make multiple trips to the shop until they got the right ones. I had them do front brakes on my Infiniti G37 once. They screwed it up. They put one of the calipers on slightly off. It was fine for 10k miles or so and then the wheel bearings failed on that side because the rotor was continually overheating. I've never used them after that.
