The inlet pipes on the M157 E63 and CLS63 are made of a fabric wound onto a plastic coil-spring. Over the years the fabric adhesion deteriorates and causes the whole part to crumble and fall apart. Is the inside of the inlets smoother unlike the outside to avoid the turbulence?
The inside is smooth (and purple at that), as there are a number of layers that build out the intakes. I didn't get a picture of the inside prior to installation, but I do recall it being a nice layered material.
