Tuned and passed smog yesterday in CA

FYI I'm running the Weistec tune, I got it last December and was expecting some problems when I went to get smogged. I'm running the tune, UPD intake, and all resonators deleted, but the cats are still in place. They were in and out so fast I knew I failed. But she said that it passed with zero issues. So for those of you wondering if you can pass smog with a tune in CA, the answer is yes. I didn't mention to the shop that the car was tuned because I didn't want them to do anything any different.

I visited Weistec and spoke with one of their reps in person about this. He said same as you said, that Stage 1 will pass smog testing here. I'm in Orange County, and wonder if the tune is really something worth doing. I was asking Weistec if they had customer info they could share, not names, just results... but no. So... if you don't mind sharing more, I'd love to hear your thoughts on the Stage 1 tune they offer. How long you've had the tune, how you drive, miles on your car, that sort of thing. Thanks!

Hello, I had the Weistec stage 1 tune for a year. On avg took my total stock car from a best of 3.68 0-60 and a 11.72 1/4 to a best of 3.29-3.35 and a 11.35-11.25 in the quarter in good weather. I am now fully weistec stg 2 with cat less DP and Mid pipes. Best 0-60 so far is 3.15 (wo roll out) and an 11.09. With better weather and some weight reduction (spare tire etc) should be close to 3.0 0-60 and hoping for 10.85 1/4. No TCU tune. Just starting into looking at TCU tune. Trying get advice on how much will decrease those times via letting more torque used in the gears. Also was thinking black boost but again not sold on that over a tcu tune.

I had the TCU tune on a 2014 CLS63 AMG... the engine is stock without a tune. The TCU tune was done by Eurocharged remotely using my laptop and a connecting cable they provided. Anyway, the car shifts differently now, slightly. It's not super noticeable to me, other than bringing the transmission more up to date, as it is 10 years old. The shift points in 1,2,3 gears last a little longer and are a touch faster. You may notice tiny improvements, but when you're racing, the tiny improvement gives you an edge. So... they told me doing an ECU tune with the TCU tune is the best way to go... I have not done ECU yet. Someday. Weistec is just up the street from me... I'm not sure who I would use to tune the car... I like Eurocharged pricing much better, and they've done a whole lot cars. The black boost intake won't help you as much as the TCU tune, I suspect. If I were racing... I'd forget the intake stuff and just tune and go higher stages as needed to achieve the times I was hoping for. And of course since my pockets have limits, I don't race, and haven't gotten the ECU tune yet... oh well. Someday.

Yes have seen most companies recommend doing both. Weistec I'm have been very happy with. But trying to get good info from them on their TCU tune is hard to get. Like what are the gears raised torque limits? Any real world street performance gains? I rarely go to a drag track mostly street pulls 0-60 40-100, Blackboost not sold on as again very few real world performance provided. I have seen a few posts videos but nothing to make me run out an purchase. Going to look into the Euro charge TCU tune.
