Porsche to compete with CLS!

from www.thecarconnection.com

"Porsche Planning "Panamera" Four-Door?

A report from Auto Week magazine says that Porsche is planning a new four-door vehicle that will compete with the Mercedes-Benz CLS. Porsche, the magazine suggests, has copyrighted the name Panamera for the new model, which would be a 2008 addition to the Porsche lineup. A successor to the long-gone 928 two-door, the Panamera would be designed for four adults and could be spun off a new rear-drive platform that Porsche would share with Volkswagen. A 450-hp V-8 could be the powertrain for the Panamera, which will be shown in concept form at this fall's Frankfurt auto show."

I am curious to see what it will really look like. I highly doubt it will have the Carrera GT front end and taillamps.

Please could Porsche stop to work with VW. It completely ruins the legendary reliability of the models (see the Cayenne problems ) and ruins the company exclusivity. (see a touareg VS Cayenne comparaison). Porsche should has learned from the 924.

I dont think Porsche cares about exclusivity anymore. If they did, they wouldnt water down the 911 with 30 different variations. It is all about numbers. Their only exclusive car is the Carr GT.

if the two rear doors were removed, the platform shortened some, and the front end restyled a bit, then it could have potential as a stunning 928 successor.

i'd certainly give it a serious look considering the state of MB sales and service.

i've heard good things about both sales and service at champion, in pompano beach.

anyway go there and have thoughts to share?

Let's see...928 ****...996 rear fenders...CLS/645 middle...996 rims...Carrera GT front. I'm just not feeling it because it isn't very cohesive...maybe it'll look better in person. Hopefully, the engine and suspension will offset some of the hits from the ugly tree.

I think Porsche needs to build a better dealer network if they plan to take MB on in this segment. Based on my experience with my Cayenne no more high end daily drivers from Porsche. Porsche does great with the engine, drive train and brakes, but its the little stuff like remote key entry, seat warmer controls, and illogically arranged control switches that drive you mad.

Why wait for a car that maybe here in 2 to 3 years, when I'll have my CLS 55 in 3 weeks.

Also, Porsche absolutely blows in the customer service department...I walked away from Porsche after having owned 5 Porsches from them over the last 10 years and now with the CLS 55...what a difference in customer service.

I remember the words I read before the Cayenne launched. Now, Cayenne is all over the street.
