CLS55 Exhaust?

Well I thought I was done with the car til I heard an SL55 in LA this weekend

This thing sounded MEAN. Low rumble exhaust, very throaty. Does anyone know who makes an exhaust for the CLS55 that would sound similar?

I've heard a couple of Brabus SLs before which sounded pretty damn mean. Maybe you could try them.

my suggestion would be kleemann headers + X-pipe......should cost around 5k but very worth it.

Well the SL stock is just louder then the CLS55 and E55.

I have had a few people interested in the Eisenhaus exhaust for the CLS, but its still under development. Should be out soon. Brabus looks nice, but is just a hint deeper then stock.

I can get any kind of exhaust, but before you spend some huge amount of cash, take your car down to your local muffler shop and get them to remove your resonators. That should cost you about 200$ max.

Then see how the car sounds, if you still want it more throaty and what not, then give me a PM and I'll dig through my vendors to see what I can get you.

Where are the resonators on the 55? Is it the same thing as the X-pipes?

The resonators IIRC are the big blocks on the exhaust that quiet the car. I remember on my LS400 I had four of them. :o

The X-Pipe is something different. The X-Pipe evens out the flow. I wanted to get one for the LS400, but decided that without proper headers, it was almost pointless.

They do as well. Unless I have the bulk of my information confused.

All the components in the exhaust system are tuned, including the exhaust pipes. Mufflers and resonators are designed to quiet the sound of the engine's exhaust, which can be quite abrasive if allowed to be uncapped. The mufflers and resonators have baffles or passageways built into them for the exhaust gases to follow. Routing the gases in this manner produces a muffling effect, quieting the noise of the engine's exhaust.

I googled it just to double check. Both quieten the exhaust.

The exhaust should be out anywhere from 2 weeks to 2 months. Eisenhaus does not have a definite ETA on it. We will have it right away once its out. I would say the price will be about $2,650. Here is a quick sound clip of an SL with the eisnahus race.

I have the Eisenmann Race on my CLK - if you want to hear it in person, just let me know. I'm on the peninsula.

i got the eisenmann, went with race. my car is v6, not v8 so it won't sound anything alike at all as the cls55, but i am very happy with eisenmann's race lineup. it is quite agressive, especially at WOT. the sport might be a bit too soft, but then of course, you can probably remove the resonators for additional rumble. i can imagine that on the cls55, the eisenmann race is killer.

you can also consider brabus or kleemann. i believe the eisenmann should be around mid 2000's, like $2500, since the e55 one is around there? not sure about the brabus, i would imagine it to be similarly priced. the kleemann's i would expect to be $2065, as with all their other amg 55 exhausts. kleemann also manufacutres headers + downpipes, with which amg sc'd 55 owners have been having great results, both power and sound wise, which retail for $3600. the headers will give you a great power increase if you don't mind spending about $1000-1500 more. but if you just want sound and look (as i did), then the muffler will work great. eisenmann race is great for that, very agressive.
