Talking 030 - CLS55 Delivery!!!!

Well - I just picked up my CLS 55 - 030 tonight at Fletcher Jones Newport Beach, CA. Check my signature out for the details on the car.

Got some bad news - The 030 Package does not come with the Limited Slip Diff. in the CLS55, only the SL55. BUMMER!!!

Got some good news - The car is a handler and still maintains a civil ride quality (even on the Sport Setting) and corners very flat and seems quite neutral while doing a slight power slide in a turn. In fact I think it rides better than the standard CLS55 with out the 030 Package. Very satisfied with the car as a total package!!! Took 4 good size guys for a ride at the same time and all said they were comfortable and did not feel cramped. Also the exhaust note is definitely authoritative when at WOT, very cool sounding but not obnoxious.

Yes, you can see I subscribe to the "breaking it in hard theory" but not abusive (long full throttle runs). Will get some pictures up as soon as I can.

Planned future Mods. - Kleeman Stage 3, Evo-Sport Cooler, Star-Diagnostics Lowering, Kleeman/SL55 030 Limited Slip, Like the Stock Wheels, Clear Bra, Light Tint on all Windows including the windshield, thats it.

Awesome, Awesome Car!!! - Bob

Kleeman limited slip? Why not just steal a LSD from the SL55. :p

If you look on the Mercedes-AMG website, and look at the details of the CLS performance package (030) it specifically says:

"Multiple-disc limited slip differential incl. reinforced final drive unit"

I guess there is mis-information on the website, something which should be corrected. I was considering ordering 030 with my CLS but definitely will not if the LSD is not included. Thanks for the heads up.

a toy
I also have a dealer handout that specifically says "AMG Locking Differential" on the 030. How do you know your car doesn't have it?

My guess is you were going by what was listed on the window sticker. For some reason LSD does not get listed on the Window sticker from what I have seen. As in your description, everything else gets listed.

On my SL65, it was not listed on the window sticker either. The only place I could find it referenced was the additional service required at 1000 miles to change the diff fluid. At the time my dealer had no idea this was required or that the car had a LSD.

It is one of the major reasons for break in on the SL65. I have know two people that have blown diffs from taking them right to the dyno without any break in period.

Can't wait to see the pictures!!!!

Congrats!!!!

I think you've got an LSD also.
And not to hijack the thread, but I have known alot of people who subscribe to the "break it in hard school"...there are often alot more parts that are being broken in than just the engine!

LSD is listed as a seperate line item when you order the 030 performance package for the SL55. My guess all along was you will not get the LSD on the CLS55. The price for the 030 package on the CLS is considerably cheaper than on the SL55.

But here are other things that the SL PP gets that the CLS does not....

For the additional 4 K you get Carbon Fiber interior trim, SL65 front facia including an additional oil cooler......

Isn't that correct?

Easily 4K worth of additional parts at MB pricing....

I have to say I will be shocked if the CLS PP does not get a LSD.

Then again I have been shocked before by MB......

I believe you are right. My guess is that they would list the LSD as a seperate line item like they do for the SL55. Just does not make sense if it is included and not listed.

Cheeres!!

I still think here's how it played out.

"***** boss, the 030 that came in....the idiots in Germany forgot to put on the LSD....what the hell do we do....SHHHH, here he comes"

Boss spins around, "Heyyyyy Mr Evolution, mannnn what a car you bought, it's incredible!!! Now about the LSD......yeah, seems we had a liiiittttlllee misunderstanding on that, you see....." Walks off as together as tech giggles to the other, "He's the best BS'r I've ever seen" snickers..

Just about the entire planet was told there would be LSD on this thing...I would be pi$$ed.

Schiznick - I would really like to think that it is on my car - for I to was realy planning on the LSD - And you are correct I assumed that the LSD was not on the car because it is not listed on the window sticker. However I must say that the traction control light does not flash very much, even in the wet! Below is a picture of the window sticker from the car.
There was a SL55 with the 030 Package on it, there, when I was picking up my car and the LSD was listed on the sticker on that car. - Bob

Smile

Bob,

I think we all have our fingers crossed for you right now!

Enjoy that new toy!

Let us know what you find out. I will go dig up where I saw the notice for the extra diff fluid change.

If I remember correctly..... (too many amg's) the SL65 had an additional warning sticker under the regular break-in sticker on the windshield warning about the diff.

Any chance you have that? Will send you a PM if I find anything esle out.

Schiz

Boy, I would be pissed. Based on your sticker the 030 is giving you brakes, the rest pretty much cosmetic? I thought there was also an upgraded suspension package?

LSD or not - I WANT PICS!!! :v
If it's really true and this car comes without LSD, I will call this guy in charge at MB and ask him for a few grand refund. I got a personal e-mail from him verifying the CLS 030-packages comes with LSD....

ekovalsky - Tried to find the 030 Package Specs on the AMG site you referenced in your post above, http://www.mercedes-amg.com, and was not able to find anything about the 030 Package on that site. Maybe you could help me out. - Bob

That's the guy who verified the LSD:

Mr. Surya Boonphadung
Team Leader - Consumer Promotions
Mercedes-Benz USA

Maybe everybody who ordered 030 should contact him this week and ask what's going on....

Smile GOOD NEWS - I Think !!

Well - I just went out, and was checking the car out some more, and the car has the sticker on the windshield that says the Diff. Fluid has to be changed at the end of the break-in period (1,875 miles That Sucks), also there is an "Approved Service Product" pamphlet, in with the operators manual, and it lists the CLS55 as having the LSD along with the SL55 and the approved Gear oil to be used. So maybe, after all, the CLS55 does come with the LSD and the Window Sticker is not correct. It sure doesn't act like it's a "Single Driver". - Bob

Why not try calling your MB parts dept in the morning and see what diff. parts are listed in their parts computer for the CLS55 w/030 pkg. I know for a fact that their parts computer does list the 380mm front brakes and SL65 pads.

I pick up my 030 tomorrow and I'll see what I can find out when I'm there..
