ignition problems
I bought a used '97 SL320 and it only had one infrared type folding key.
I ordered a spare infrared key from the dealer using my VIN #. When the key came it would not work to start the car. It fit the lock manually and unlocked the car using the infrared pushbutton, but it would not work in the ignition. The car tried to start, but never would. The dealer reordered another key with the same results. My original infrared key still works in the locks, opens the doors and starts the car. Dealer stated that my engine contol module is bad. If original key still works, how could the computer be bad? Anyone else have problems like this? Dealer refuses to replace key again and states that the computer has no room to learn a new key. Does this make sense?
