Dillemna, 55 or 63??? Input please!!

OK, here is the deal... I have been on the hunt for about a month and have found a few cars that I am thinking of making an offer on. I am not a BS'r if I make the call I will be ready to consumate the deal.

Option 1 - 2006 CLS55 with the following:
Sirius Radio
Phone Syst with VCS
Distronic
Parktronic
Electronic Truck Closer
Keyless Go
Lighting Package
Premium Package
AMG High Performance Pkg 030
MSRP $111664
Kleemann K2 w/I/C pump $10000
total 121664
Seller is asking in the high $90's, car has 7000 miles, black

OPtion 2 - Brand new 07 CLS63, black for just under $100k from local dealer in Orlando.

Is the 55 too high or is the 63 a good deal??? Which would you gravitate towards and why??? Should I make an offer on the 55 and what does the market support???

Thanks

seeing the car is K2 equipped and the 030 package, both those packages are worth close to $20,000...correct me if im wrong. Then again you are also getting the 63 at a good price too, i heard most dealerships are asking for a premium over sticker. In your case its just under 100k which isnt bad at all....what options are on the 63? To me both of them sound like good deals, i would go see each one in person and test em out.

I'd take the 55, going to be way more exclusive and you'll blow the doors off the 63, plus the 030 gives you all of the advantages that the 63 has, with the exception of that drivetrain, but then again that's a moot point with a fat, flat torque curve. Take the 55 man!

Depends

If you're looking for max performance, the 55 is the no-brainer. But if you look at it from the warranty perspective, it's 48 months / 50k miles of no questions asked versus the possibility of "that's not covered because of the mods." If the performance of the 63 is enough for you and sleeping easy is also important, it's a different no-brainer. Repairs on these cars are very expensive.

55, its loaded every option, and the K2. As soon as you drive that 63 off the showroom kiss $5-$8k goodbye, to me I go for the most bang for your buck, and the 55 is it. Also the engine has been out for quite some time, I'd let the first year bugs get sorted out of the 63 first. You can't even get 030 on a 63 as right now at least.

Also a fair price would be mid 90's not high.

And best of all the 55 is black!! yummy

If anything, do it on the GP that the Kompressor badge is way more badass than that 6.3 liter badge.

Why didn't you try our local dealer? If your getting it out of town you may want to look further for even better deals.

I kinda feel bad because the seller of the 55 has gone out of his way to send me info and I have seemed non-commital. I have been looking at GT-2's, Challenge Stradales, Modenas, and these. I have been a Ferrari owner already and it was a so-so experience with unreal service bills and crappy reliability. My wife feels like a Benz will be a great combinatin of looks, performance and longevity. I tend to agree. I will send an offer today and see what happens....

Sounds like a nice deal on the 55. You'll have the Kleemann K2 plus I/C upgrade, also the brakes, wheels, and LSD from the 030. Can the CLS55 owner provide you with a dyno ? If not have him get one, that way you'll know the mods are properly installed and functioning as they should. If there are problems with the mods, you may be facing significant expense and down time to get them corrected!

Overall it seems the 63 engine/drivetrain is a fairly lateral step from the 55k, and being in its first year I would have some concerns about bugs not being worked out in the new engine -- read recent posts from MHK. The 55K engine is proven to be strong and reliable, and with the ECU reprogramming, boost increase, and new headers it will certainly outperform the 63, and most other ultra high performance cars, except for the variant used in the CLK-DTM II and of course the (unconfirmed) twin turbo version.

And while buying a CLS63 at MSRP right now isn't necessarily a bad deal, it will seem so once widespread discounting begins in another 6-12 months. With the 55 you are already taking advantage of the depreciation of the car, not to mention the mods.

55 -> step on the gas is like getting hit with a sleghammer from just off idle

63 -> step on the gas is like being pulled by a 747.

Well, barring any unforseen circumstances I am picking up the CLS 55 030 with K2, etc in the afternoon tomorrow. The car belongs to Tony007 here on the forum.

Awesome car! It will look even better with different rims and a lowering module. If you want, most of the cost of new rims could be recouped if you sell the 030 wheels.

Here is one of the dyno pulls. I believe that it has been remapped since and is making slightly more.

I'm in the same boat. Bottom line for me is I expect to be able to save a lot of money by getting the 55. A lot of people will be trading in their 55's for 63's.

Now, the ability to mod the 55 is a whole other dimension. If your goal is the fastest beast possible and cost/warranty are not issues, get the 55.
