translation of km/h to mph (a simple question)

I feel I know the answer to this question but need confirmation.

What does a 0-100 km/h (or 0 - 62mph) time of 4.5 translate to in 0-60 MPH? Do you simply minus .2 of a second thus 0-60 = 4.3?

College Student who's in Physics to the rescue!!!!

We have the equation Vfinal = Vinitial +at

so..... 27.77 m/s = 0 + a(4.5s)

a = 6.17 m/s2

and so for 60 mph = 96kmh = 26.667 m/s

t for 0-60 = 26.667/6.17 = 4.32 seconds

So even though for this instance you could kind of subtract .2 that will definately not work in most other situations. It was kind of just a lucky coincidence. Hope this helps.

Many thanks for this! This is really helpful since as you know MB and indeed all German car makes quote acceleration times in km/h and not mph as we are more used to in the UK.

Oh ya. BTW the equation I used is for constant acceleration, and even though cars don't exhibit constant acceleration it should be close enough in this instance. You couldn't take it and say how long would it take my cls to get to 400 mph? Oh only xx seconds. Clearly it doesn't work that way. But for this example good enough.

Hah! Sorry I'm not the best explainer in the world. And then again if you don't like math in the first place it probably didn't help any.
