CLS 55 vs. M5
Nice video. I think at the end he was saying that the overall score was 2 : 2. A tie? Can anyone make out German.

You are partly right...the diciplines that they test the cars in are design(Merc wins), interior and overall build quality(Merc wins), handling(BMW wins), price(BMW wins)...but the reporter ends by saying that as an everyday car the CLS is the better choise because it can be driven slowly without any problems, where as the BMW screams to be punished all the time and does suffer a bit because of this fact when cruising at normal speeds. So maybe the Merc wins by a bit...but anyways close race.
I'm just curious as to what you think about them comparing the M5 to an CLS. In my mind the CLS should be compared with the M6 and the E63 should be compared with the M5...anyone agree?

I owned a M5 for nearly a year.
I would describe it as as Ferrari with 4 doors. I realy tried to like it but found that for day to day driving it was a pain. This was mainly due to the gearbox which is very frustrating and the engine which had very poor performance below 5000 rpm.
My wife spotted the CLS55 and loved the shape. I have now owned one for a month and must say that it comes very close to being the best car I have ever owned. Classic looks, great cabin which is intuative, and performance on demand.
BMW M5 eat your heart out

One of my associates just purchased an 07 M5 to replace his 02 and so far he enjoys the car, I believe that this is due to the SMG transmission. I have driven the car and it is very enjoyable to drive, however I do agree with you all that the AMG automobiles are much more practical, and plain and simply better automobiles.

I have had all three the 2006 M5, the 2006 CLS55 amg and the 2007 cls e63 amg. The M5 was the worst. The SMG tranny is outright terrible. Fine in manual mode but the auto mode is a disaster. The car is also NOT user friendly and rides rough. If you want to race up and down hills all day, drag race, then it's OK. The i drive is a complete disaster. Too deep and too many submenus. (How about just pushing a button to change radio stations?). Can't even check your oil manually. No dipstick! Both of the Mercedes are great! Comfortable, fast, and all the features you would need or want. I prefer the E63 over the others as it has a brand new suspension, better brakes, better steering, sits lower, a great sounding exhaust, REAL shift paddles as opposed to push buttons, an 8000 rpm tach with a 7300 redline, and other neat stuff. Definitely the way to go for everyday driving.
