Dynoing The Cls63 Today!...

So, any advice as to what gear I should use what be great. I will be using a Dyno-Dynamics dynometer, which is Australian, so it reads 12% lower. All I will have to do is take the numbers on the graph and multiply them be 12% and I will get the numbers as if it was on a DynoJet. I will also post the graph for you all too and have a video...

FYI, my car only has 800 miles on it now, so I'm going to dyno it now and then, hopefully dyno it around 1500-2000 miles to see if there is a difference.

MHaynes772,

I am no expert, but shouldn' you use 5th gear since that is a 1:1 ratio?

I am really curious on the dyno mode. Is it the same on the new 63's as it is on our 55's?

Can't wait to see the results. Hope he gets it in 4th and 5th just to be sure.

Alright well, I dynoed the car and here's what I got...

It made 421.6 rwhp and 411.12 rwtq. I couldn't use 5th because of the limiter. Anyway, I tried, so I hope y'all enjoy...

Dyno Graph...take the numbers and multiply by 1.15 to get Dynojet numbers...

Cool, and that's that. These things are indeed making over 500hp.

520hp - 19%Drivetrain = 421hp

For real, glad to see this drama coming to a close. Last nights Siswati race being pretty close (CLS55 to 63) from the looks of the pics. Now a 520hp dyno.....great news.

FYI 2- My break-in period was non-existent. I romped it from the moment it left the lot with 2 miles on it.

MHaynes772,

Thanks for the dyno. At the beginning of this thread, you said you had to take the numbers and multiply it by 12%. Later, you multipled it by 15%?
I am not sure which one is right? I am no dyno expert at all?
Do you think MB has a 19% loss in drivetrain? Is that the standard number we, at MB, have been using?

Thanks for the dyno. Nice to hear real facts for once.

Sorry for the confusion, forget the 12%. You have the use 1.15 and multiply that times your DynoDynamics number to get what you would get hp wise on a Dynojet. So:

I made 366.4 on the DynoDynamics.

366.4 * 1.15= 421.36

Then to get Crank horsepower, multiply that by the 19% drivetrain loss...

520.4 crank hp

You sure about that ? Why the 1.15x fudge factor ? Do the Dyno Jets just read excessively high or the Dyno Dynomatics too low ?

My car got 478 rwhp on a Dyno Dynomatics (at Dyno Comp in Scottsdale, AZ) after the Renntech Stage 5 mods were completed. Stock was 372 rwhp on the same dyno, with somewhat lower quality fuel.

Using your method:

478 x 1.15 = 550 rwhp on DynoJet
550 x 1.23 = 677 bhp

372 x 1.15 = 428 rwhp on DynoJet
428 x 1.23 = 526 bhp

Here is my graph

Well, I'm just going by what the dynodynamics people said. They said their dyno's are mainly used for tuning purposes, and if we wanted the figures of what it would come out to be on a Dynojet, to just multiply the hp we got by 1.15. Trust me, I'm not expert at this, just going but what I'm told.

FYI- I did dyno my 07 Z06 on this dyno and it made 390rwhp. Thats way off compared to others Z06 unless you multiply it by 1.15 and you get 449rwhp. Thats almost exactly in the area of the other Z06 owners power; maybe even a little less.

Thanks for the explanation, and of course for getting the car dyno'd and posting the results. Maybe this is why my car measured so badly stock, I had assumed it was either bad fuel and/or high temps.

There are Dyno Jets around town, one of these days I'll repeat the dyno on one of them.

a few...
MHaynes,
Congrats on the new whip! Tell me how much better you like it over the Z. Supposedly the new 63s are great from rolls and pull incredibly well once past the 2k mark.

For ekovalsky, if you think that his numbers don't add up... so be it.

It's amazing how different cars post up different results... who would have ever thought?

BTW, MH I love the white. If I were to get a new CLS, it'd be white too. I must say, you have nice taste

Well dyno is just a dyno, every machine reads differently. I was just pointing out that, if I apply the same formula to my Dyno Dynomatics readings, my car would be producing 677bhp which I doubt. Would be nice if were though

In my case, my stock rwhp (375 on the Dyno Dynomatics) would translate to 469bhp with a 1.017 correction factor, or 493bhp with a 1.069 correction factor. Since my car was built in 12/05 and thus has the new ECU software, it probably is closer to 469bhp. The older 55s that have not been flashed are probably near 493bhp.
