cls 55 amg, clk 320
red line
i have a stock cls 55, its done 4000 miles, and according to the owners manual, the maximum revs are 6100 rpm before the red line. when i'm pushing the car it goes to at least 6500 rpm, and the tranmission becomes stiff and dosent upshift when i manually try to do so (delayed upshifts). Obvioualy a want to avoid engine damage, my question is it normal for the gearbox to shift like that ?
otherwise i have to take my foot off the throttle to avoid reving it to its maximum so the car would smoothly upshift.
any advise would be deeply appreciated.

your car is ok, there is no prob with it.
the transmission is just slow to respond in manual mode, for example if you upshift (press the button) at 6100 it will switch gears 300 rpm (or so) later, it takes the trans. ecu time to figure out if your request is possible/safe.
as for the engine reving past redline, thats normal also, there is redline and then (usually a few hundred revs later) there is fuel cutout (rev limiter). for max performance in most cars its better to shift as close to the rev limiter (w/o actually hitting it) as possible.
here is a vid of me driving my moms e55 in Manual mode, i press the button at about 6100-6200 and you can see when the gear change actually occurs, as speed increases you can shift later in the rev ranfe b/c it takes longer for the engine to rev b/c the car isnt accelerating as fast, practice and youll get it down

yes its ok, i doubt anyone does/did it more than i did in my clk55 (6700 cutout), the engine was fine.
i hit 158 before the limiter stopped me
