030 or just new wheels
I am trying to decide if I should order the 030 option.
I love the wheels. 030
I hate the standard 63 wheels.
Don't need the fancy steering wheel
Don't need the 186 limiter
Don't need the firmer suspension
Don't need better brakes - never will track the car
Limited Slip
Somebody says this makes the car squirmy around corners? Is this true?
I would love better traction of the line, but based on the lower low end torque, I don't know if limited slip would help on a straight line race.
After market wheels would cost 7K (Lorinser Lm5).
So the 030 at 9,500 is really a pretty good deal.
What do you think?
Do you think the suspension is too harsh for somebody who takes clients and passengers all the time?
Thanks for your imput. Getting a little excited
....that is IF the ride isn't much harsher with the 030, someone should be able to answer that question for you
Thanks for your post.
You mentioned you are glad you didn't get the 030. Is it because you would have changed wheels anyways? Did you want the LSD or any of the other upgrades to the CLS?
What kinda of wheels did you get and how much did it cost?
Does your tire monitoring system work?
Thanks.

Like you, I didn't need the fancy steering wheel, the 186 limiter, the firmer suspension or the better brakes. I just didn't feel it was worth the additional $9,500.00. I did get the Premium 2. I saved$4,600 from the sticker price, and my dealership wasn't going to discount an 030 that much (max $2,500) if they had to order it, which to me in reality I would have paid an additional $11,600 for the 030.
Actually, at first I didn't have any intention on getting new wheels. I assured, my wife no mods on this car. Been there done that. Now, that was last month. LOL
I bought Maya MRS 3pc with w/Continental contact 3 tires from Charles at wheelautohaus.com for $4,700.00 mounted and shipped. Locally, they wanted a lot more than that. These wheels get a lot of compliments on the road. Here's a link to the images I posted with more detailed info on the wheels. https://mbworld.org/forums/c219/175049-new-wheels.html
The tire monitoring system does NOT work with my new wheels. I was told that approximately, 95% of all aftermarket wheels will not work with the TPMS sensor. The sensor is built in to the stock valve stem on the factory wheels.
As soon as I posted my new wheels here I had a offer from another forum member wanting to buy my old wheels which had 700 miles on them. I sold them for $2,500. The 030 wheels will certainly sell for more.
Again, you'll be pleased with whatever choice you make..

I, unlike most will not track the car, yet I WILL hit that 186 Limiter, shortly after break in. Promise.
The major advantage that took me into the 63 and not the 55, was the 7 speed. I had a good feeling that this would take the unecessary harshness out of the car and it has. Even with the regular 500's it does give a harsher ride, than an Audi. This is Completely true, with the 030, you can definitely take clients in the car, as it will drive exceptionally smooth, almost like a cadillac. UNTIL, you blip the throttle. Then the beast will rear his head and literally destroy pretty much everything you can come across.
The Brake upgrade takes the harsh bite out of the brakes and you do feel that they have much more control than the standards.
Yes, I can throw the car around at will with Traction off, but with it on, it will not really break loose, at all. This translates to much less worries when driving normal.
Since the 7 Speed is much smoother, it has the impression of being a slower car to the 55 owners, but it feels instantaneous fast, it is hard to see the gauge that fast, its a must to read the mph digitally and even then it's like 20,50, 70, 100 boom.
The car is exactly what I wanted, drives like a Bentley and then rips a Porsche,, at will. There are many people that will not truly drive this car, the way it should be driven and for those..... Do Not waste the time with the 030 package. For me, it is well worth it.
As Juice said above, he chose it for the looks. The rims are awesome for MB. Even though there are some wicked Carllson, Lorinser, etc.. It is not worth the trade off of ride, stability, cornering, rubbing and even Factory warranty.
When you get the Bigger Brakes in the 030, you literally can see that you would be lucky to get a finger in between the rim and the rotors. You just see allll brakes, it is wicked.
Plus they are staggered 255 Front and 285 Rear.

If you are taking more than one client or passenger at a time, i would not even consider the CLS. The back seats are just plain horrible for any adult other than a midget.
E63 maybe?

Here is my take on the rims situation.... I would get the 030 package as it will definately make your car more unique and get you the rims you want. If you get aftermarket rims, its much harder for you to sell them at a decent price... If you get bored of your OEM's, i found that its much easier and faster to sell...

You could never get that much off on a 63. Some people here didn't even save more than $3,000. LOL
I want to see the paperwork on this deal..........
