First Kill, M6 gets murdered

I'm on my way home cruising the speed limit(50) when a M6 passes me by goin about 80mph. I instantly jumped out of my seat and caught up, His car had dealer plates on it too just like mine and even though I only have 500m on mine I couldnt resist the temptation to take out my nemesis. I got next to him and we both got down to 50, we took off for about a 1/4 mile, and before we realized how fast we were goin I was ahead by four cars and I was on D the whole time. The second time around I shifted into M- 2nd gear and we took off from about 30mph, once again the 63 took off like a rocket while the M6 had a hard time keepin up whatsoever I got up to a 100mph and decided to stop picking on him. I was suprised to see the M6 not being much of a competition, but maybe he didnt have enough time to push all the buttons necassary to attain the cars full power, i guess hes gonna have to work on that one. I think I sent him back to the BMW dealership. Not bad for a first kill.

I hate to burst your bubble but the M cars have like 100 less HP when new. They have to pass 1200 miles before they can use that last 100 HP. Sorry dude, nice kill but the M6 is one fast freakin car, you wouldn't walk it that easily, you might beat it but not without a nasty fight.

That might be true but my car is also new with 500 miles on it and that was the first time I ever pushed it.

Yeah but your car is not limited by software in the first 1200 miles. Good kill anyway bro, not trying to knock it or anything, just something to consider.

so the cars limited by software huh, I didnt know that. I was wondering why he wasnt keepin up as much as he should cause he was pushin it pretty hard but when we got over 80, the difference in power definetly showed. I'll have to find another one now.

yeah, same with the M5, which totally sucks cause you never get a good test drive that way. I test drove the M5 and it felt like a real POS due to limited HP. They should have a test car that has over 1200 miles on it but they didn't at my dealer. Oh well, it was ugly anyway so it didn't matter.

ya the M5 is pretty ugly, all together the car doesnt seem to fit too well in my eyes. I test drove a used one so I got to push it pretty hard but thats after clicking 3different buttons which felt like a hassle. I want all the power all the time.

Agreed.
My buddy who has na M3 was trying to get me to buy an M5. On the test drive he was playing with all kinds of setting trying to show me how cool SMG is. All I saw was about the most inconvenient way to drive fast.
Same guy now LOVES my CLS and tells me every time that I made the right decision.

you sure did, I almost messed up and got the M6 but I changed my mind for obvious reasons... This car is excellent.

They have the full hp anytime, they (new owners) are just told not to use it. There isnt a switch that turns on at 1200 miles that gives them more hp. That switch is available anytime. I test drove the M5 and ran it full bore-the dealer didnt care that I was running it in S6 mode (or whatever the full hp mode is). Hopefully an M5 or M6 owner will chime in and give the exact details.

The bottom line is the M6 is a mother to catch over 120mph even in modded E55's. Thats their sweet spot. If I lived in a rural area with wide open roads and limited traffic it would be my choice of car but since I live in the world of stop lights and bumper to bumper traffic, the 55 is my daily driver.

Anyways, good kill!!

In my opinion it's a win-win stuation picking between the M6 or CLS63.

Hey Vic55,
I have talked to three dealerships that told me you'd have to bring the car back to remove the limiter AFTER 1200 miles. I'll try and find you a source online. My buddy's M5 was the same story.

I have heard about that too and some supposed flash that dealer does. I talked to evosport and they cant confirm or deny since they have never dyno'd a M5 or M6 before 1200 miles. Isnt the power button what bumps the car to 500 hp??

The M6 and the CLS are both very amazing cars but I find it hard to believe that there is some flash that would unleash more power out of the car but it maybe tru very interesting to find out.

The power button is the 100 hp bump and I could tell the difference in the test drive but I have heard that some people have got their car back after the 1200 mile service and its faster- this may be just psychological in nature?

19 Ferrari 488 Spyder, 19 911 Speedster, 19 Merc s63cab, 17 P Cayenne turbo, 16 Boxster Spyder,
S6 is locked out during the run in period.

I've owned 3 M3's, an e39 M5, an e60 M5 and an e63 M6 and all these cars seemed like pigs during the run in and then absolutely flew thereafter. Perhaps it's psychological, perhaps not.

Given the relative performance and specs of both cars, I can't imagine either 'killing' the other as they are so close in performance.

I agree that both cars are definetly close in performance so I guess It depends on the driver and How fast u can configure the settings to let loose on the M-series.

And the "driver" lost to you 2 or 3 times on an automatic?

Thats not true you can enable the full 500 in the M-Mode even if the car is new. It just comes disabled by default. I was driving in Full power mode from the first day I got the m6. I have not had the 1,200 mile service yet. The CLS and M6 are both great cars but they are so different.

Yeah you can press the button, and it will light up, but you're not getting the full 507, FACT. Its electronically limited, and I hope you're having fun burning through that mineral oil that's definitely not supposed to take the abuse P500 puts on it. NOT a smart move. Specifically the oil in the diffs that's supposed to ease the bedding-in process. Essentially what you're doing is burning up fluid that will now leave a residue inside your moving parts.

Also, you can't even get INTO the MDrive menu before the 1200 mile service, its disabled until the BMW techs get into it. I'm starting to doubt you even have an M6.

No I was able to add get to that mode right away. Im not sure if its actually active or not. The sales guy never went over the break in procedure on the car and I only got to read the manual a few days latter. When I picked up the cls I was told there is no break in and I can drive the car hard right away. I figured the same was for the m6. The car did display a low oil message and I added about a quart of oil at around 400-500 miles. The dealership told me it was normal for these cars to burn oil in the beginning.
