Question Replacing resonator with X-pipe

This might have been posted before but has anyone here replaced the resonator with a X-pipe, paticularly on a 63. I wanted to know if it produces a big difference in the exhaust note and if there is any drawbacks to it. Thank You.

drawbacks?? Depends on if you like your exhaust loud. I replaced my 550 with an x pipe and it is much louder. I love it.

My MB Mechanic told me that the car loses power by adding the x pipe, But hes not too sure..

The x-pipe will take out the fluddering sound during WOT. It will also quiet it down a bit, but nothing major. Same exhaust tone, cleaner sound!

On my E55 it made it quieter and it did lose about 10hp. I removed it and put straignt 2.75 pipes and power was back up and sound has a little more growl over stock.

Do not waste your time. Without full-lenght headers, there will be no gains.

Just cut-out your resonators, that will add more tone to the exhaust.

I saw one at the calabasa dealer today with the resonator cut off, It sounded much louder but almost like a rice rocket. Not really the sound Im looking for and on top of it my mb tech told me he lost about 15-20 hp by doing that.

You wont lose any power by cutting the resonator off. NOW, if you went with 3" piping, your powerband will shift up a bit. I took out my secondary cats, mid pipe, resonator and mufflers. Replaced by 3" piping and X-pipe but retained the factory exhaust tips. I lost a bit of low end between 1000-1500 rpm's but nothing major. Mid range is quicker but the top end is WAY faster. Not bad for a $350 job including mandrel bends....
