CLS AMG comparisons...

I'm soon going off to a new college in NYC and I'm stuck on the
decision between an CLS/E63, SL55 or M6. Does anyone have experience
with them, or have owned all thee? I've driven the M6, but the
transmission was so annoying and I don't know if I could tolerate it
in NYC traffic. Does it get easier once you drive it more? How about
an Aston or a 997? I would love an Aston DB7; it's pretty cheap, but
I don't know if it would attract the wrong attention since I would
park on the street a lot.... And I don't know if my parents would pay
for that even though it's the same price as an SL55.

Thanks.

Nice parents!
I drove a 1985 Honda Prelude (at the time 11 years old) all thru college and it was missing most of the passenger door panel due to a crash from a previous owner. LOL, good for you bro, that's awesome.
If I had the choice in college (ppfff) I would go with the SL55. Unless you think you're gonna have a bunch of girls in your car all the time in which case I would go back to the CLS63.
As for the BMW, you either like those cars or you don't. They're all amazing cars. BTW, the transmission on the BMW does not get any better as time goes by. SEVEN SPEED RULES!!!

Traffic in NYC is always annoying. Why bother with a car as a daily driver? Use limos and cabs on a regular basis and park whatever car you decide on in a nice garage for use when you are going out of town.

Then you can get the Aston Martin.

However, I would guess that the co-eds are going to be chasing after you by the car load. Perhaps you will need the seating capacity of the ML63 or R63?

Rock on, young man.

I just got rid of my cls. The cls is a great car, but it was dented to high hell because of my schools parking lot, that car dents very easily. I went and drove the M5 and M6, there both good cars but the smg got old after after about 10 minutes. Went and drove the E63 and the CLS63, both of them are great cars, the E63 is a much better pick over the cls if you have people in your backseat often, my friends destroyed my backseat because theres no room. Go test drive the maserati quattroporte, i love that car, only problem is that theres no dealership locally for me to have it serviced, and that a big issue for me as i beat the crap out of my cars. A word to the wise dont get an aston, my older brother had a Vanquish and the damn thing overheated all the time. But im def. purchasing the E63, then I need to get all of the renntech mods Goodluck on your decision

Not to burst your bubble, but any of those cars mentioned will get destroyed driving in NYC.Trust me,been doing it for 20yrs.I would NEVER park any car that you care about in the street. You will be backed into, rammed into&bumped by cars trying to parallel park in front/behind you.
Parking garages are another disaster.Unless you own your own spot because you live in the building&know the people whp park next to you on a daily basis, your car will be dinged&dented in no time.

Sh**t,I wont even drive my M-B's to Manhattan on the wknds for fear of destruction,& I've lived here all my life..
Not too mention the potholes....

That being said, out of the cars you've mentioned,I've driven/owned evry one except the Aston.Cant go wrong with any of em....Just not as a daily driver in NYC.

IVE driven//owned all those cars, and I would say the sl55 is the funnest to drive but the cls is much much better as a daily driver. The e63/m6 should be out of the question if u have the choice of a cls or a sl... Aston Martin i s a piece of **** unless its a vanquish S other than that AM's cars a horrible, go drive one and see for urself.

well ... My first ride was a 1983 Buick Skyhawk! Sweet .. but i would agree with most of these guys and say MB is the way to go in the choices given but even more so having that kind of ride in NY doesn't make much sense. I've owned an 04 M3,04 745i,2007 750Li and now my CLS and i would say this car by far is the real deal .. all around package.

I drove a bike in college!!! You sons-of-b***hes!!! I don't mean to lecture, but I hope to God you are good to your folks, I hope you make them proud...because they are damn nice to your...don't get me wrong, I wouldn't refuse ANY of those cars if my folks offered them to me when I was in school...but I agree with 'oldgixxer' especially if you park it on the street. Also, you've got it right about the M6 and the SMG...not great in traffic...there are better choices. Congrats and good luck in school...keep you eyes on the target, not on the tail(if you catch my drift).
