sound system

anyone here upgraded their sound system? Basically, am looking to add a little more low end bass, along with some highs. thinking about some sort of bass tube, like a bazooka in the trunk. how would they connect them to the stock head unit?

thanks in advance

I spent 25K on the sound in my car. JL subs, Alpine amps, MB Quart signature speakers, sound & vibra-isolation. Went to a car audio competion last week, got first place in 4 categories including best sound and best in show. Not that I like to brag... Will have pics later.

I spent about $12k on my system. The stock radio is a complete joke. One item i reccomend is some newer type of high/low converter that rockford makes to hook up your sub. It has a bluetooth connection to a pda and allows you to tweak in the sounds to your liking. I went with JL amps/sub with Morel highs. I couldnt be happier.

the factory system in my cls sounds like it has a "limiter" on the volume and is capable of being much louder. You guys with the aftermarket systems, did u use the stock head unit? Is there a way to bypass that limiter thingy?

ouch 20K??? no, i am not trying to rock the car next to me apart. Just need a bit more highs and lows. stock sound system is a joke!

my fiances 30k acura sounds 100x better. i offered to swap cars with her a few times, and she said "no thanks, your system sucks"

I wanna do a system in my cls here pretty soon , i know im either gonna go with everything jl or maybe a little higher end like macintosh . A jl high/low converter is the best way to get your sound right other than that you gotta switch your head unit out which is something no one wants to do..? Im gonna start in a couple of weeks so wait for the pics..

Infinity

I bought a sub and a 760 watt amp. Helps the lows. Highs are still rather weak.

yea, i heard about the jl convertor. do you happen to know what model? also, does it allow you adjust the outputs on the stock system? i'm thinking about just adding a simple powered bazooka tube. if the convertor allows me to adjust the highs and mids, that would be awesome.

Adding bass will not solve the problem. I know this first hand. First I installed my sub & amp and added a second amp to the stock speakers to get more volume. The high/low converter I used has an eq via bluetooth so they used a pda to take out all the lows from the mids/highs to offset the added power. They still souded like sh*t. My advice would be to replace the mids/highs first and ad an amp. I have a gain knob for my sub and when turned off, the Morel mids/highs sound excellent. I have no real need for a sub accept for the fact that I like the Boom.

its not rocket science you need a converter such as the jl clean sweep and or the rockford fosgate 360 which can be controlled by bluetooth phone. The stock amp is located behind the carpet on the left side once you remove the carpet panel look behind the area where the hinge is for the trunk and behind it you will see the factory amp . its bolted in by 10mm nuts i believe 3 of them.

bp- i believe you are correct. there is one cheater bypass which is to use an ipod and run it thru the audio jack in the glovebox with the ipod volume turned up around 3/4 of full. you will get louder sound and a little more bass. (it doesn't turn it into a different system, but does boost it a bit)

I have done numerous Sub add ons and system upgrades in MBs and we tend to go with Jl clean sweep and JL or Alpine PDX amps as well as Alpine and JL speakers (really depends on your budget) the only draw back is that you will need to use the cleansweep to control the volume of the system. This is A minor change to get great sound

so i went to the local stereo shop today and this is wat they recommend. they say total weight is probably going to be around 100lbs. their going to leave the stock mids and highs. i actually prefer the bazooka tube for bass, but the guy says bazooka is going to sound terrible, he recommend building narrow box with a single jl 12". what do you guys think?

1 cleansweep
1 ssi module
1 jl 300/4 amp
1 jl 500/1 amp
1 12" jl wg sub

from what they tell me, the ssi module basically flattens the signal before going into the JL cleansweep device. cleansweep basically allow you to connect other devices, such as amplifiers and stuff to the stock head unit.

I suggest changing the mids & highs first but either way I think you will find the stock mods & highs to be lacking and will swap them. My suggestion woulld be to have the sub fire through the center arm rest cut out of the back seat. This will keep truck rattle to a minimum.

nice, thanks... yea, i think their going to put a narrow box that covers the whole space behing the back seat, with the sub port hole coming out of the arm rest.

by the way, you mind posting some detail pictures of your set up?

Reus Audio Systems

Any of you audio guru's hear the Reus system for the CLS? I hear they use their own speakers in place of the stock and place a few more in covert areas. The head unit remains stock but I understand they get amazing sound. I've personally never heard any of their work but I have read about them from other forum members. I believe it is about 3K to do all their modifications. I'm just wondering if any of you audiophiles know their work.
