seats, memory, and key fobs
Thx to all of you for humoring all my questions -- it is truly appreciated.
1. my salesman said is works this way
2. a few posts (on this forum) for older model Benzs talk about this behavior
3. a lot of pretty common cars do this (not with keyless go, but working off the key fob)
4. it's common sense that it should work this way
2. a few posts (on this forum) for older model Benzs talk about this behavior
Thats correct the older cars use to do that, I guess they elminated it, people probably share keys to much, and don't want the seats to move maybe?
3. a lot of pretty common cars do this (not with keyless go, but working off the key fob) My Cayenne remembers stereo and AC/Heat settings, not seats though
1. the seat, rearview mirrors, steering column settings are supposed be able to be set either key-dependent or key-independent (I'm not sure if this is a user-programmable option).
2.Ergo, when you program/reprogram your memory 1 settings, then the keyless-go/electronic key is supposedly downloaded these settings. Now, each time you enter the car, these settings are supposed to be set in accordance w/ the memory 1==>keyless-go settings IF your setting is set to key-dependent=yes.
3. Now, logical question: is this efficacious? Don't know b/c I had my key-dependent setting set to "no," the keyless-go settings do NOT reset or control the above settings (this was b/c we were trying to solve a particular problem w/ the AMG seats (I have a blog here a while ago on this subject)).
Not sure this helps, but that's all I know re this matter.

With that said, he now said that MB discontinued that feature for or after (I forget which exactly he said) the 05 model year, so the older cars WILL behave this way but the newer cars will NOT.I don't seem to have a "key dependent" option on my 06 unless I'm missing it. Does anyone else have this?
