55 steering and suspension creaks: common problem??

For the last few months I've noticed a regular groan and creeking from the suspension (all around) and especially when the steering is turned off dead center in either direction. Persistent and easily heard. I suspected that since the car is immaculately taken care of and never "abused" this must be a common characteristic of the steering/Airmatic/suspension.

Took it in to the dealership, who had their top suspension tech look at it, and after the usual "we don't see it" routine, completely acknowledged that it was there and actual and factual. Luckily there was a 9K mileage 55 also for sale at the dealership, so we had it pulled up and....lo and behold, same "problem/characteristics" as mine, except less vocal.

Whether this is a "standard" issue characteristic or not, it still sounds pretty bad. Anyone have any experience or knowledge re this...appreciate group's input. thanks!

I'm @ 22,340 and yes it creaks, I had this same problem with my E took it to the shop so many times I gave up. I think it needs to be lubed properly something that is always overlooked.

WD40?

thanks all. Don't know if it's a safety concern, esp when driving 7 or 8/10ths even, but once again, and the dealership I take my car to has surprisingly good customer service, this is the first they've heard of it. As much as anything else, the latter response is what surprises me, esp when others obviously have the same problem, like clos encountered.

clso-what did you find needed to be lubricated and w/ what?? WD40 sounds good, as does that pop-up ad here for Jig-a-Loo (LOL!!!! is that like Astroglide for MB suspensions?! LOL)

i'm guessing

Don't really know but my guess is if everything comes out normal on diagnostic then it only leaves the KISS effect. Keep It Simple Stupid, the squeaky wheel gets the oil. Don't really know where to spray but it was the first thing I thought of to get rid of the noise.

So in retrospect what I did to get rid of the noise on the E was buy a new CLS55 wife wasn't to happy but I got rid of the noise. I guess its back to the drawing board on how to solve my current problem

suspension creaks

Hi everyone,
I had front suspension creaks on my CLS55 that first started coming after using the level change (and slowely going off after a while). These creaks (very irritating I shall admit) over the time started to be more and more constant even without changing the level and not only when passing over a traffic bumper, but also on relatively small roughnesses on the road.
Visited the authorized service twice but the car was relaesed only with a check saying it's all OK.
Recently I went to a guy who previously worked at an authorized service of MB (now working on private) and after checking all the joints and others - the problem appeared to be the reactive rod - changed it and all the noise has gone.

Hope this helps as sometimes going to the service you shall be prepared to ask for what is to be done.

Cheers,

It is the entire sway bar. The bushings on them go bad, but dealer sells it as a complete unit. No more creaking noise after that. I took it to the dealer to get it diagnosed and they tried telling me to change the lower control arms, sway bar links, and one other piece, but none of it worked. Took it to my friend who is a mechanic and swapped out the sway bar no more noise after that.

I had a similar creaking problem. It was gone after my indie and I changed the ball joints and tie rod ends both of which were toast at 50k. If there is a creak there is a reason. For me I don't want a 100k plus car sounding like a bucket of bolts going down the road. More importantly is the safety factor. Have them check your front suspension. Oh and my front tires were wearing perfectly at the time so even wearing tires is not necessarily an indicator of the condition of the front suspension.
