Ipod instalation question

Hi guys, got the ipod installed for my cls 55 using mb oem kit. I love the steering wheel controls and messages on the dash screen, but the sound is bad. The quality of the sound is great but, the volume is much lower compare to am/fm or cd. I thought maybe my ipod is on low volume, but it was on max, then i thought maybe instalation was done wrong, but took the car to a dealer and they said everything is fine. Did anyone have the same problem?

i dont have the kit, but did you try changing the eq setttings on the ipod? i think that would help a lot, if the current eq setting is at flat levels.

can it be a bad song on the ipod? maybe one you wouldnt notice till you hooked it up in the car? try using it on radio that can use the ipod and see if you still have the problems.

The plug that goes into the back of the comand unit is the same plug that goes into the ipod oem kit. Its just when its directly plugged into the headphone jack its not losing and DB sound. The ipod kits is what causes the loss of sound.

After doing a ton of research on the Ipod volume issue which included tuning my Ipod with GoPod, Mp3Gain etc. I determined that the only remaining solution would be to try the Aux fix . . . and IT WORKS! I am much happier with the volume level and yes having the option of a ride along DJ is kewl.

The few hurdles I encountered when removing the Comand were:
1. Shifter comes off by turning black piece under shifter half turn, which unlocks the shifter allowing it to be pulled straight off.
2. The molex plug behind the ash tray pulls down rather then straight back.
3. I could not slide the COMAND out after unscrewing the two silver screws under it, so I simply reached behind and felt for the wire, seeing from Kevin's pics that there were only two connections I figured I could figure it out by feel. I then plugged in the Aux connection by feel.

So now I must go to BestBuy to get a Monster Cable male/male as the one I have is really cheap and I don't want to sacrifice quality now.

Time to add more songs to Ipod now that the volume is right.

Next project is installing the CLK63 Black Steering wheel I just ordered.

Thanks again Kevin and the other contributors to this forum as I guess we would all just have to take our cars as is rather then optimizing them

Glad to hear you fixed it Evan, on #3 the screws basically slowly unlock the unit, you have to continue unscrewing them even though they feel loose, once its all the way unscrewed it will stop, then you can slide the unit out.
Keep up the good work!
