Puff of white smoke?

Puff of white smoke?
Started the car sat morning, backed it out of the garage and onto the driveway, shut it down. The gf was watching and said a quick puff of white smoke came out of the pipes and that was it. You could see the cloud in the garage. Happened again this am. i started it tonight and didnt see a thing though, no smoke coming out while it was running. Any of you guys experience this? I have had the car a week now and driven it like twice. Car seems to run ok. Just 2 codes i am getting which are active headlights unavailable and esp malfunction visit workshop. Is this occasional puff of smoke normal at the start? thanks for any input. Car has 11k miles on it and under full factory warranty.

Happened to me once (but huge puff of smoke and smoke smell) with a huge (VERY LARGE) puff of smoke. I want to say the car was sitting overnight (may have got to about 70 degrees in the garage so the car was not even "cold").
Has not happened since and never brought it to the dealer.
The price we pay for having a 12 second street car...
Let me know if the dealer provides any feedback.

Happened again this am when i started it, nice puff maybe a 6x6 and it was still coming out of both tailpipes and after a couple of min no more was coming out. i shut the car down for about 30 sec. , started it again, and little puffs were coming out of both pipes. Any input would be great. Thanks.

Take it in ASAP..im not mechanic, so I wont try to e-diagnose the problem, but white smoke out the tail pipes is not good (unless it's just straight exhaust fumes)

Happened to me several times
I know exactly what you mean. During the first 5000 miles it happened quite often. Has not happened in several months. Car has about 9000 miles on it but was at 4000-5000 when it happened.
Never had it looked at. Just spontaneously stopped.

Both of my cars have done this when:
Its cold. You start it for just enough to move it
into the garage. Car never comes to temp.
Then a day or 2 later you start it up again.
You get the puff of blue smoke once in awhile.
Let the car come to temp.
Bet it never does it if the car is allowed to come to temp.

I have noticed the same exact situation, only a little more pronounced as I have removed 2 of the catylitic converters, I don't think its an issue, let us know if you find out otherwise

I've been pricing these around...trying to figure out what is a fair price to pay for one with low mileage.
Thanks
btw...I had a '05 S55 and it did the smoke thing a couple of times too.
Mentioned it to my service advisor and he said it's common on these supercharged AMG motors. I didn't worry about it and it hasn't happen for quite some time.

White smoke is caused by oil entering the cylinder and burning upon ignition. Several ways oil can enter, the most likely is the valve stem sleeves are not yet fully seated on a new car. Give it a couple of thousand miles or so. If it happens occassionaly it can in most cases be considered normal.
Unless there is noticable oil consumption, at least a quart in 5K miles, then no concern. If there is, you need to ask yourself this question. Do I want to tear down the engine just to avoid the white puff of smoke? Best to live with an extra quart or so between oil changes then to go through the rebuilting effort.
If you are to live with the white smoke, protect yourself by making sure that you are still under warranty.
Good Luck.

About the going price in SoCal with PII, keyless go, parktronic, electric trunk, Was it a CPO?
#17
nope, not a CPO. I plan on getting extended warranty down the road. Still have 2.5 yrs factory warranty left. I found one $ 1400 cheaper and it was a CPO, but it was 200 miles away and it was brolo red, which i didnt like at all. I fig. in so. cal they would be going for more because of the area. Is it true only 1500 CLS55's were made?

What was the asking price...wondering how much haggling you had to do?
I'm not finding one with that kind of mileage and equipment within this price range. They're all in the upper 70s and some even in the mid 80s (don't know what they're smokin. I'm in the northern cal area....how about you?

According to the Dealer, the non orginal owner can only purchase an extended warranty within the warranty period if the car is CPO. The CPO is an additional cost. You might want to clarify this with a Dealer in your area.
If anyone has information contrary to what I stated, please let me know.

There were a couple of posts on the board concerning extended warranty. I'm concerned that I didn't feel like laying out some 4K in advance of the expiration of the warranty. My dealer said that the extended warranty can be purcahsed at the same price as quoted at purchase up and until 12 months from that date. After that, it is approx. 20% additional each year. This only applies to the orgiinal owner.

I talked to a couple of dealers. That is true if you are going to get extended warranty through MB USA, but you can get it throught a couple of otheer companies cheaper.; i was quoted 3600 for a total of 8yrs/100k mile warranty or 3100 for a 7yr/85k warranty bumper to bumper no deductable.
