actually you are incorrect, stock 55 and stock 63. the 63 will be slightly faster overall. but yes there are alot more mod possibility for the 55 than the 63 so far today !!!! but i am sure it will all the be same eventually.... but i personally still prefer a 55 supercharged motor.

According to MB the 0-60 is faster on the CLS63.

4.3 vs 4.5

If that really means anything.

difference in speed is negligible, subtle diffeences, by your sig looks like you already own a 55

JUICE, The clk 55 engine is different from the E-cls-S. It puts out less power.

I personally like the power delivery of the 55K engine. While our tuning gives the 63 a nice kick, I still prefer the way the 55 delivers the punch. That's probably why I still have a 55.

I'm a bit confused...

Hopefully I'm not hijacking the thread by changing the subject, but I've quickly grown into a CLS fanatic after watching Top Gear's review on Youtube.

On MBs website, the CLS 63 is listed as being faster than the CL 63, which happens to have 2 less doors and cost 40k more.

Can someone explain the main differences between the two? Per the website, it looks like they have a very similar (if not, exact) engine.

Where does the huge pricing differential stem from?

Even if you didn't have 1 post count I could tell you're new to MB.

The class hierarchy in luxury cars is mostly artificial and meant to separate the rich from the super rich.

With that said, the CL is more luxurious in almost every way. It is NOT a sports car, it's a lot heavier which is why it doesn't go as fast.

To see the difference though you really have to sit inside the car. Everything about the interior is just a bit nicer.

The other thing you're paying for is the exclusivity of the CL-AMG model. They just won't make them in the same quantities..

But if you're under 40 I would not get a CL even if you can afford it.

Hope that answers your question

Yes, that really helps. I've been a Bimmer enthusiast for quite some time and was really never interested in MBs up until recently. Relative to the BMW numbering system (which is a lot more intuitive IMO), there seems to be a bit of ambiguity in the MB number/lettering system.

Thanks! I've got my eye on the CLS 55...

you will not regret with anything with a CLS 55. thats an excellent choice. however depending on your personality, the CL63 is a very great looking car, but in my opinion is a bit overpriced. my pre-owned Gallardo cost less than that. i also agree with most people, i prefer the power delievery of a 55 motor for everyday driving.

The cars are so close 0-60. MB times are conservative. I perfer the 55 due to the rumble and roar off the line on the streets. I test drove the 55 and 63 and decided upon the 55. It may have been an unpopular choice with the masses, but it is want I wanted.

As Juice points out about the 1/4 mile - it all about driver skills and the rubber.
