adding gloss to flat dashboard wood trim
Hello Forum
I just picked up a used 06 clk 55 amg and am super happy with the car with one exception. I'm not a fan of the matt finish on the wood trim. Has anyone found a product that adds a glossy shine to the flat finish. Maybe some sort of furnature polish or wax? Any help would be greatly appreciated

I don't think a DIY job is recommended...I wouldn't want to f__up and have worse situation.

First off I would post in the CLK section, then I'd ask if someone wanted to trade. I'm sure there is someone that doesn't like the perty shine, or they just want a change. Thats your best bet.

I wonder how hard it is to remove the wood pieces, I'm pretty mechanically inclined. Once out of the car I'm sure I could find a bodyshop who could shoot them with a high gloss clearcoat.

I just wanted to let you know I had a gloss wood trim in my car. I did not like it at all it made me feel like I was in a old man car. Anyway though I changed mine to a Piano Laquer black and from what I understand if you spray a clear coat over the flat wood grain you have it will be shiny. Of course though you would need to take it all out of the car and then clean and prep it really good before spraying it. My interior was done at Platinum and they did mine and it came out looking really sharp. Good luck.

Thanks for the input, I'm going to sit with the matte finish for a while, I think it might be growing on me already. If it doesn't it sounds like I'll have to take it out and send the trim parts to a body shop to have them shot with clear.

I just got a 2008 CLS63 and I am going to replace the wood with carbon. Not sure the timeframe or what the wood (or metal I guess) its worth but would be open to figuring something out.
