Thinking of purchasing a 2006 ClS55

I am thinking of selling my E55 for a 2006 CLS55. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. What should I look out for (product recalls, problems with 2006 models, etc)...

Thanks

This car was made exclusively in 2006 so you're stuck with that model year.
I support your decision, the E-class just isn't sporty enough for me. The CLS is very dramatic and aggressive.
Even though you might loose .2 on the 1/4 mile, there is no comparison in looks and presence.

Good luck man.

Thanks.. 'Even though you might loose .2 on the 1/4 mile' Ughh! That is a lot.. That is the difference between winning and getting walked..... I hate to give up .2 on the 1/4 mile, but I agree the looks and presence are nice.. If I am going to lose .2 seconds, I need to mod more to make up for it..

a car that gets very poor gas mileage.
You'll be spending more time off the track than on. I'd gladly give up the 0.2seconds now and make up for it later.

I have no problems with mine. NONE. Except all the extra work to keep a frigging black car clean and shiny. Love the car.

Go for it and good luck with it.

Not many people ever ran the CLS 55. I would not be too quick to say its .2 slower than the E . Its heavier but it also has a better weight transfer so with the right driver the 60 ft time could drop to 1.6 . I ran a 1.69 with a 63 and hang with stock E55's as easily as I do E63's. Very close indeed. with all your experience it would be easier to get this car sub 12. I think mid 11 second is enthusiastic. It definately is a head turner. I know my car outweighs the E55 but it does not make a huge diff. In the 63 it is about 2/10ths but my car traps similarly. CLS is sexy as hell

There are a couple for sale low 70k,

I had been looking at getting a newer used E55 for the last year or two, but my patience paid off in that during this time period the prices of the CLS55s dropped considerably and a local dealer got a 2006 with 23k miles on it in a couple months ago and I was able to get it for $68,000 (loaded except distronic, original sticker $97k) which is what I was looking at paying for a slightly used E55 last year. Very happy with the CLS choice and I have always been more oriented towards performance than aesthetics.

LOL, your the man! In the back of my mind, I might be in the same boat as you. I kind of want to trade my SL55 for a CLS55. Trying to make moves for that Nissan Bad Boy coming out sometime next year.

But, im going in the opposite direction as you, If I switch to CLS55, i'll be shredding .2 seconds off.....haha...
