Brake squeak...again

Ok.. I know this has been mentioned a few times on this forum but I'm looking for advice.

I have an 06-CLS55-030.

At 4000 miles, I took it in for the notorious brake squeaking problem. Basically, they squeak pulling in a parking spot, slowing down at a light, pulling in the garage or pulling up to the valet.

At 4000 miles, they replaced the entire brake kit.

Now the car has almost 20k miles on it and the problem is back. I brought into the dealership and they told me there was nothing they could do about it. That in the manual it says there will be occasional brake squeak.

Questions:

1) Is anyone else having this problem? If so, what have you done about it?
2) Are there any other solutions? I heard about some solution you can have the shop rub on the brakes to stop them from squeaking. Anyone heard of this?

We're all having the same issue. All have been told nothing can be done. I've been thinking about lemoning the car until they fix it.

Can you give me a good reason why? Are you supposed to expect that your car's brakes are going to sqeak when it costs $100K? Been back 4 times for sqeaks ...

my breaks squeak as well, when I bougt the car at 5000 miles they squeak, and now at 10K they still squeak. It sucks, but I have learned how to break to minimize the annoying sound.

my SA did mention of this "solution" for an extra $120, but he said that they did not guarantee the squeaking would go away. I wasn't happy with that answer. Lately the squeaking has been to minimal.

MB brake pads blow chunks. I took mine in for squealing 4 times, at one point they actually made it worse when I got it from service

I switched to Porterfields R4-S on Friday, not even a hint of squeal. I know it's still early but I have a good feeling about these pads.

Having gone through the Lemon Law procees in CA with an Arbitrator and winning the ultimate, a buyback at the end of 36,000 mi, I know a little about this subject.

First, it must affect the safety or the proper operation of the vehicule. Brake squeels don't qualify under the definition of CA law.

An option for the fix is to change it out using rotors and pads from non factory. The downside to this, is that members of this board have reported loss of use of the brake wear sensor due to this change out.

Or you might want to talk with a Lemon Law Attorney specialist. It costs nothing to talk.

Just my $.02.

I know that brake squeels don't qualify under ca law, but why?

I understand that since the brakes themselves work, then it doesn't affect the safety of the car, but the squeeling part is not proper operation. How do they define "proper operation"? Is brake squealing "proper operation"

Are there any re-calls? Maybe a re-call or a service campaign can fix this?

a brake squeek doesn't effect the vehicle operating safely. in addition, what you are talking about is clearly subjective. some may complain that the exhaust is too loud on these cars upon acceleration.

now, to be fair, my brakes squeek a little from time to time, and this is what i think of when i read this post. you could be experiencing a different sound which could be very shrill and loud.

isn't break squeel becuase of brake dust? Can we really get rid of it all together? I try to wash of the break dust as often as I can, I have 22k miles and my squeel isn't as obvius and im on my secend set of pads.

brake noise

Hi: Got the same problem. It comes around every now and then but it goes away. Drive at 30 miles speed in REVERSE. Apply the brakes suddenly. Try it four or five times it should go away.

Ok, the car is at the dealership for the brakes and this is the report I got. The rotors and pads were changed the month I bought the car March 07...so they will NOT replace anything. The cause of the squealing is the corrosion on the rotor. I do not drive the car much and it slowly corrodes because of humidity and the resulting corrosion causes noise when it rubs off when the pad makes greater pressure. Service tech will lightly mill the rotor and apply MB brake grease for $175 an axle (all labor no parts). But it will come back when I let the car sit for a while. His solution (inexpensive) - take the car up to about 100 and do some really heavy controlled braking...hard on the brake but not lockup. It should clear the rotor eventually. This is the best they can do for me!

my guy first say all mb squeeks from time to time, so i ask him, why didnt it do that prior to getting my brakes replaced. He took the car back and mill the rotors and did something with the pad and problem is still there. Now he's telling me their going to put some sort of compound between the brakes and pads. getting my car back tomorrow, so i will keep you posted.

Hi, i may be a bit offbase here...

My car 2009 C350 has started to make a whistling/screeching noise when i slowly move a car from stop, like moving when the signal turns green, It disappears if i speed up fast and doesn't happen all the time. But it is getting me a bit worried.

The sound comes when i have not engaged the brakes, infact there is no realation to brakes at all.

Any advise will be appreciated.

If it sounds a bit like metallic clunking as tin cans banging against the road as well as screeching, then you might have some sand or gravel in your wheels or brakes. I had this in my non-Mercedes car and the sound was absolutely awful. Went away after hosing the wheels with water and driving forward and backward for a while so that the stones/gravel/sand got out of the wheels.

Update on my previous post, Well the screeching noise still come, but when it does, i engage my parking brake for a few seconds and the noise disappears as soon as i release them. I know thats not a perfect solution but atleast it gets rid of the stupid noise.

Anybody else with the same issue ? and do you have any other quick fixes for this ?
