CLS 550 or CLS 63 AMG?

...............I understand your point, but really the last reaon to buy a 550 is gas mileage. Shocking but the 2008 CLS550 has a worse fuel economy rating than the 2006 CLS55. combined city/highway mpg for 2008 CLS550 is 16mpg. For the 2006 CLS55 it is 17mpg. The annual fuel cost for the 2008 CLS550 is $2800. For the 2006 CLS55 it is $2100. The links are below. I am sure some sources may have slightly different numbers, but the point is that both cars are in the same ball park. I like most will take a used CLS55 over a new CLS550, but I acknowledge the risk one has in buying a used car.

Ive had my cls63 for about a month now, and i do about 50% city and 50% freeway miles, I get an average 16mpg, and thats with WOT every now and then...
when i'm in bumper to bumper traffic, it drops to 11-12mpg and when im on the freeway doing 80-85, it shoots up to 19-20mpg
