CLS63 AMG
M5toMB
Fellow Comrades,
I am new to this forum as well as new to the BENZ world. Coming from driving an 07 E60 M5 to now driving a CLS63 AMG is a whole new & different experience. I miss the stiffness and roaring of the V10 but the beauty and vroom of the exhaust of a CLS63 makes up for it. I will not sit here and writea comparing essay on these two exotics but i must mention that they are the testament to the best 100% German Engineering. I have attached few pictures of my ex and my current. I look forward to a warm welcome from MB world as i once experienced from the BMW enthusiasts.

CLS63 AMG
I was actually shopping around for a Grey or White M5 and went to a dealer who had the Grey one. When i got there, i started the M5 and you could tell it was abused. But park right next to it was this Beauty. It was love at first sight. Plus my wife's opinion played a vital role. I still have to get use to using pedals on AMG as i am very comfortable with SMG and SMG was the best thing i have ever driven.

Edit: don't get in a twist. I know in the real world it seems the E55 also makes 493bhp and is a 1/4 mile beast. Was just going by the good folks at MBUSA

At the time I was in the market to buy a new car I too considered the M5. Here's what I liked better about it than the CLS63:
- Better steering wheel.
- Better feedback from the steering wheel on how the suspension/car is behaving.
- HUD
- iDrive.
That's it. Everything else I like better on the CLS and like you, I think the exterior aesthetics is a lot more appealing than the M5.

2012 Cayenne Turbo
I have never quite figured this one out. So the 55 and 63 motors all put out the same HP and torque regardless of model or what Mercedes says?
I find it hard to believe a C63 and an SL63 are putting down the same.

I never have understood why people like HUD? When I had an M6 it was just an annoyance. I hated the nonlinear nature of the thing. And a be very careful if you get a cracked windshield. I had to replace the front glass after a truck kicked up a big rock and was very specific about OEM glass when I had it in the shop. They put in the wrong glass (it must have been standard 6 series stuff or M6 without HUD) and the HUD distorted liked a circus mirror.

06 CLS55 AMG-all options sans Distronic; Carrera4S; 07 M5;Lexus GS300
Welcome and congrats.
Elsewhere on the CLS-AMG board I posted my earlier driving impressions re both the 07 M5 and the 06 55 I currently own. Having now driven the M5 some more, while it is a great car and the engine is simply ferocious and divine, especially in the Power/M mode, and the SMG works very well and shifts quickly when running the M5 hard/tracking it, in daily driving it simply is a damn annoyance, unnecessary and a PIA. I drove the M5 this w/e exclusively, and apart from the sheer pleasure of running the car hard and fast and adrenaline flowing and laughing while doing it, it was a pleasure to return to the more relaxed 55 and its autotranny today.
Again, the M5 is a more "technical" car than the M5 and less "alive" and communicative. Unlike others' opinions, I find the 55's steering wheel feel and control equal that of the M5's, although the 55's wimpy steering wheel itself need replacement. The M5's navi/GUI is contemporary, the COMAND v7.0/GUI legacy from a bygone era.
But there simply is no beating the exterior beauty and elagance of the CLS' pathbreaking exterior!!!
