Buy a CLS 55 or a 08 CLS 550?

Hey members,

Looking for some opinions.

I have a certain budget for my next car...what would you do.?

I love the CLS 55 AMG(2006) worried about resale as i like to keep my car for about 3 years.

Or do i get a new 2008 CLS 550 and not have to worry about losing money when i sell the car.

I dont want to regret...buying the CLS 55 and then in 2011...no warranty left it will be more harder to dump

i'd go cls55 all the way. if you get the 550 you'll always be wishing you got the 55, especially when you get burnt by all the rice burners and muscle cars...

If you are worried about depreciating, then your best bet is to buy a preown CLS55. They've already lost their retail value. Remember that cars usually lose their retil value the most in the first two years. I will always buy a one year old preown because you get more for the money.

Why even consider a brand spaking new 08 CLS 550 when you know you will only drive it for a couple of years. You're doing somebody else a favor by taking the depreciating loss. I would only consider a brand new car if you are going to lease it under your company name, thus tax write-off. Or you're going to keep it as a collector.

Just my .02 cents. You're getting advice from a former Porsche/Mercedes/Audi Finance director. Hope this helps. GL

Both cars are going to deprecite like crazy anway... My advice, go with a pre-owned certified CLS 55. It will be the best bet. Look around, there are some killer deals out there right now...

I just picked up a 2006 CLS55 black on black 35k miles for $53,000...It came with a 2 year (100K) bumper to bumper and I added another year for $2,100. They said extra 2 years for $4,300 or 1 year for $2,900. I said no thanks...They came back and said 1 year for $2,100...I guess the add on is negotiable....just fyi.

Everything is negotiable in the finance office. We used to mark up at least 100% on extended warranty rate. We took no less than 1k above actual rate. Finance office is where we made all the money for the dealership. Just imagine?

So yes, it is negotiable. I can give you that tip since I'm no longer in the business.
