2006 CLS55 AMG
Cost of repairs

I'm considering buying a used CLS55 AMG for under $40,000. It will probably have 40,000ish miles.

I was wondering what are the most common problems they have?
How costly are the repairs?
Are there any known major problems?

I'm 18 and can afford the car payment after putting down a $12,000ish down payment. My co-workers are trying to convince me out of buying it, saying I will never be able to afford repairs and such once it's out of warranty.

I'm in LOVE with the CLS class, and I "like" the E55 (talking purely asthetics here). The E55 is more affordable...

Save yourself the worrying and buy a good aftermarket warranty, it's a machine something will inevitably fail.

I've always heard aftermarket warranties are crap. Does MB offer one that is like the factory one?

Get the DC Warranty from Mercedes. I believe it is $2,500 and is the best warranty on the market.

US Fidelis is pretty legit as well. I know a few people who signed up for that after taking a similar route as yourself.

Congrats on the potential purchase. I was in your boat as well, looking for a CLS55 AMG but I've found no reason to buy such a machine with such high mileage in order to fit under $40K. I'll be settling for an Audi A5 CPO'd...

The alternative at this point is an E55 with 30-35k miles for $35,000ish.

I'm not an Audi fan...

I'm coming from a car with 400hp... so I definitely don't want to downgrade...

I agree. The Audi I was looking at was sold so I picked up a new 09 G37s (every option known to Infiniti) for 38K, MSRP $46K

Good luck with your endeavor(s)...
