$40k wholesale price for an 06 CLS55?

$40k wholesale price for an 06 CLS55?
Was talking to an Audi dealer just out of curiosity about an 07 S6 they have on the lot. They told me that the wholesalers were offering high $40's at most.

Converted to USD that is around $40k...yikes!

Does that make sense?

National average for low mike 2006 CLS55's is between $41,000-$44,000 you can also find them all over auto trader for mid mileage 55's priced at $39,900

....not just Mercedes either. Check this out:
2006 BMW M6, 11,000 mi, $55K:

Helluva deal for a practically new M6....if I didn't need four doors, I'd think about this one...
